The Systems Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing platforms for automating sepsis diagnostics. These platforms will include electrical, mechanical, and fluidic components. The Systems engineer is expected to be able to work independently to develop and prototype systems as well as collaboratively with scientists to generate system requirements.

 

 

 

The primary responsibilities include:

 

Designing and assembling prototype systems to test scientific hypotheses Sourcing custom and off the shelf parts to build prototype systems Basic electronics design using off the shelf components to create electromechanical systems Coding for serial communication devices Supporting scientists using the prototype systems and making upgrades and improvements based on their recommendations Supporting the prototype systems that are in use and maintaining up-times Performing feasibility studies on new prototype systems to determine whether or not they meet requirements Performing characterization studies of hardware performance to support scientific inquiries  Required Qualifications:

 

Bachelors in mechanical, electrical, physics, or other related engineering discipline plus a minimum of 3 years experience in industry OR Masters in mechanical, electrical, physics, or other related engineering discipline plus a minimum of 1 years experience in industry Demonstrated intermediate or expert level proficiency in at least one CAD software (Solidworks or Fusion360 preferred) Demonstrated intermediate level proficiency in python and C++ programming languages Demonstrated experience working with serial communication devices Demonstrated experience programming microcontrollers (raspberry pi, arduino, etc.) Experience with at least 5 different manufacturing techniques Experience working with microfluidic components and devices (flowcells, columns, syringe pumps, etc.)  

 

Desired Qualifications: 

 

PhD in mechanical, electrical, physics, or other related engineering discipline Experience working and prototyping in a wet lab environment Experience working on projects related to molecular biology Experience working with OEM microfluidic electromechanical products (Syringe pumps, rotary valves, pinch valves, peristaltic pumps, etc.) Experience with PCR and NGS workflows Experience working with and programming automated liquid handlers (Hamilton, Tecan, etc.) Demonstrated experience working with CNC Mills, Lathes, laser cutters, etc.
