Director Procurement & Strategic Sourcing

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join us as Director, Procurement & Strategic Sourcing to join our team! The Director of Procurement & Strategic Sourcing will be responsible for developing and executing procurement strategies aligned with business needs. This position will manage supplier relationships, communicate regularly with senior leaders, execute joint collaborative initiatives, and supplier contract negotiations. This position will also ensure sourcing strategy execution, negotiations, contract implementation and monitor performance against established targets.
 
As the Director of Procurement & Strategic Sourcing, you will be a part of a fast-growing and innovative organization at the company’s headquarters in Redwood City, CA.  Responsibilities include market analysis, negotiation planning, competitive price and cost analysis, contract development and on-going supplier management and risk management. Additional focus on optimization of internal sourcing processes, workflows and interfaces to reduce time of delivery and costs. This individual will be expected to deliver value and competitive advantage to the business as measured by customer satisfaction, project execution, value improvement, innovation, and other areas such as risk mitigation, where applicable.

What you'll do:

• Develops and executes sourcing category strategies using data analysis, risk assessments, internal customer needs and supplier landscape knowledge.
• Leads sourcing initiatives including requests for proposals, supplier selection, and negotiations.
• Develops a deep understanding of business partner objectives to ensure alignment with sourcing initiatives.
• Partners with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality and Process Development to develop business requirements and execute sourcing initiatives.
• Builds sourcing strategies to ensure continuous supply with minimal risk and improved pricing and product quality.
• Designs and implements effective risk management programs.
• Leads development and execution of a supplier relationship management framework.
• Create deep supplier relationships with strategic suppliers to include data review and analysis, regularly scheduled Business Reviews, performance management and development and improvement.
• Drives continuous improvement within Sourcing and Procurement processes
• Recruit, hire, train staff, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and corrective action.

About you:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, or other technical degree and 8+ years of relevant experience in the biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical industry
• Extensive experience leading sourcing initiatives of all kinds (e.g., rapid sourcing, targeted negotiations, complex category strategies, supplier relationship management, outsourcing)
• Self-motivated, flexible, and creative leader, able to prioritize, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
• Excellent analytical, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Outstanding strategic skills with the ability to transform general goals into actionable plans.
• A true team player focused on adding value.
• Working knowledge of ERP systems, and sourcing tools (e.g., SAP, Ariba, Coupa, etc)
• Skilled negotiator with experience developing and executing complex negotiation strategies.
• Strong leadership presence with ability to garner respect through sound technical analysis, business judgment and clear decision-making.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to lead, interact with, influence, resolve conflict and drive decisions among individuals from a variety of cultures and disciplines.
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant applications.
• Willing to travel as required (up to 30%)
