The Infectious Disease and Viral Vector Technologies Laboratory Assistant I role is responsible for supervising and performing technical and administrative tasks on a day-to-day basis in support of the laboratory's research and operational needs. This role oversees equipment maintenance, ensures adequate supplies for experimental needs, assists in personnel management, manages laboratory safety programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, assists in laboratory space and facilities planning, makes recommendations for changes, maintains inventory of laboratory furniture and equipment, and serves as the liaison to business partners and vendors.

As a Lab Assistant I for the Infectious Disease and Viral Vector Technologies teams, a typical day may include the following:

- Manage day-to-day activities within the research laboratory
- Set up and maintain everyday laboratory organization, including ordering, storage of consumables
- Ensure proper function of laboratory equipment, through coordination of preventative maintenance and repair
- Coordinate purchase of new equipment and update service contracts
- Act as liaison between laboratory, internal IT and business partners
- Attend cross departmental business review meetings and coordinate internal department trainings
- Act as liaison between laboratory and safety/regulatory offices to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
- Develop laboratory guidelines; maintain procedures manuals; and/or evaluate new materials and equipment
- Help with the administrative requirements for maintenance and renewal of IACUC protocols in coordination with Principal Investigators and the IACUC comitee
- Train incoming personnel in proper laboratory conduct. Develop instructional material for routine training purposes
- Initiate and compose communications for various purposes in an appropriate style

To be considered for this role, you must have 1+ years working in a BSL 2 lab setting. Capacity to get in-depth understanding of organizational structure, both within and outside the work unit. Ability to review goals, analyze processes necessary to achieve those goals, and develop techniques and systems required to meet those goals. Often explores new areas and seeks opportunities to apply new knowledge to work. Operational knowledge of advanced lab equipment and software would be a distinct advantage (flow cytometers, 96 well plate washers and etc...). Advance knowledge in Microsoft Office suite.
