Description:

We are currently recruiting for a Manager, Career Services, Outreach and Education. The person in this position working closely with the Office of Postdoctoral and Graduate Affairs (OPGA) Director as the primary contact for career services, employer relations, science education, and outreach, the Manager of Career Services, Outreach and Education will work closely with the 100+ postdoctoral fellows, 50 graduate students and outreach volunteers, student interns, post baccalaureates' to provide programming, individual career advising, and facilitation in the initiatives within Office of Postdoctoral and Graduate Student Affairs.

The ideal candidate will work well in a fast-paced environment and will be a team player with experience building successful collaborations. We are looking for an individual who is able to research and execute innovative methods of digitally delivering career services to different levels of learners, including post baccalaureates', summer interns, PhD students and postdocs.

Career Services and Professional Development :
  • Develops, designs and builds content for the various career development services including Career Exploration, Assessment, and Planning; Career Readiness and Job Search Tools, Resume Writing, Interview Preparation and Negotiation.
  • Coordinates and leads the content and facilitation of our career pathways including the academic career track for R1, and R2 institutions via the Trainee to Tenure track program.
  • Provides individual career counseling and coaching, advise on job presentations, provide professional development support, networking opportunities, walk-in advising, open office hours, and mock interviews for graduate and professional school, internships and full time employment will be part of the role's offering.
  • Leads and organizes career development events for both industry research positions and science related careers. Provides individual advising appointments, professional networking resources and events, for graduate students and postdocs.
  • Manages the Industry Research series and the Exploring Careers in Industry and Technology career development series.
  • Assists with completion of Professional and Graduate School Applications, Interviews and Program Contacts.
  • Provides in-person and virtual presentations to classes, student organizations, workshops, webinars and panel discussions for PhD students, post baccalaureates, summer interns, and alumni.


Employer Relations :
  • Work with both local, national biotech and pharma companies to organize recruiting events, share resources, networking opportunities and develop career fairs/symposia to showcase Gladstone trainees to provide information on alternate/different careers.
  • Represents Gladstone at association(s), meetings. Curates and maintains career opportunities resources. While partnering with colleagues' internally and externally, provides information on current career and professional development programming and and updates participation, as well as post-surveys for effectiveness evaluation purposes.


Science Outreach and Science Education:
  • Education Programs: Manages outreach events that showcaseGladstone's science. Contributes to various student outreach events including classroom talks, partnerships with high schools, community colleges in the Bay Area on various science education initiatives. Shepherds our ongoing partnership with the National Student Leadership conference with the goal of inspiring high school students to become the next generation of researchers and raise their awareness of the possible paths to science-related careers.
  • Works closely with Gladstone's scientists to help promote science communication skills and provide programming and opportunities in mentoring, public speaking, teaching, and communicating science effectively to a lay audience.
  • Working with the Director, manages Gladstone's flagship diversity internship program. Serves as content lead on aspects of Promoting Underrepresented Minorities Advancing in the Sciences (PUMAS) diversity internship program. Facilitates and develops professional development and scientific leadership training for all our summer interns and develops, maintains, and monitors evaluation systems for education initiatives.
  • Creates and shares learning materials, develops curriculumand resources online to expand our outreach to students and, educators.


Requirements:
  • BA/BS required and 5+ years relevant experience including three years of experience in higher education, professional schools, career services, advising, recruiting, training, and professional development


Preferred:
  • Master's degree
  • Two or more years of experience in career development and planning, career advising
  • Experience in science education, public speaking, and
  • Experience working with higher education students, domain knowledge in life sciences, in a corporate or academic environment
