Research Associate I - Palop Lab

The Palop Lab at the Gladstone Institutes and UCSF is seeking a Research Associate to assist in studies focusing on cognitive and network dysfunction in mouse models of Alzheimer's disease. The successful candidate will primarily be working with mice and supporting postdoctoral scholars and Ph.D. students in the laboratory. Key responsibilities include supervising multiple mouse lines with lab members (not including genotyping, earmarking, and mouse husbandry), conducting basic histological techniques for neuroanatomy studies, and performing behavioral testing using standard and machine learning approaches. Depending on interests and skills, the successful candidate may also carry out independent experiments and receive training to perform specialized laboratory techniques such as brain surgeries, LFP/EEG recordings, in vivo optogenetics stimulations, machine learning approaches for behavioral phenotyping, transcriptomics, and data analyses.

Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree in biological sciences with some relevant experience working in neuroscience. Current post-baccalaureate candidates are encouraged to apply. Please provide a cover letter, CV and names of 2-3 references.

Desired experience
  • Experience with mouse work, including maintaining mouse colonies, performing surgeries and transcardial perfusions, or behavioral testing.
  • Experience with histological techniques, including staining and confocal imaging.
  • Experience with in vivo or in vitro physiology, including EEG/LFP recordings or patch clamping.
  • Experience with computational approaches, including MATLAB, machine learning, or transcriptomics.
  • Goal-oriented team player able to contribute to multiple projects independently or under supervision.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
  • Eager to learn, passionate about neuroscience, and ready to make meaningful contributions to science.
