OmniAb, part of the Ligand family of companies is looking for a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist to join its Antibody Discovery group. The candidate will support all data driven efforts of the OmniAb antibody discovery team selecting panels of therapeutic candidate antibodies. A successful candidate has strong bioinformatics skills and a background in applied data science for antibody discovery, molecular biology, and algorithm development. Teaching and training of junior staff and non-informatics trained scientists will be an essential part of this role. Additionally, the role will involve coordinating experiments across a variety of internal and external projects; so, strong communication skills and a collaborative nature is a must. The candidate will report directly to the Director of Antibody Discovery. This position will be in Emeryville, CA.

Essential Role Responsibilities

  • Guide data driven antibody discovery efforts
  • Supervise junior bioinformatics staff
  • Drive data standardization and integration
  • Conceptualize, develop and integrate algorithms and scripts to process data from various sources
  • Help to develop OmniAb informatics team and platform
  • Guide therapeutic antibody discovery efforts for partner and/or internal projects
  • Preparation and communication of experimental data reports for partner and internal antibody discovery programs

Non-essential Role Responsibilities Include

  • Presentations at major antibody conferences
  • Other duties as required

Minimum Requirements

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology/Immunology, Statistics or Mathematics with 2+ yrs relevant experience – or
  • BS or MS in Biology or equivalent, with extensive industry experience (5+ years) including antibody discovery
  • Documented coding skills in python and/or R in the context of large-scale biological data (i.e. high throughput assay data such as NGS) is required
  • Experience in algorithm development is preferred
  • Experience in project management is preferred
  • Experience in antibody discovery and/or (computational) immunology is preferred
  • Experience with data from antibody characterization techniques such as ELISA, FACS and cellular assays is preferred
