The Bioinformatics Scientist will report to senior bioinformatics staff and to the Director of Antibody DiscoveryThe candidate will assist all data driven efforts of the OmniAb antibody discovery team selecting panels of therapeutic candidate antibodies. A successful candidate has a bioinformatics background in applied data science with eagerness to acquire new skills in the field of antibody discovery and computational immunology. The candidate will work in tandem with a senior bioinformatics scientist and provide support for all non-informatics staff. Additionally, the role will involve coordinating experiments across a variety of internal and external projects; so, strong communication skills and a collaborative nature is a must. This position will be in Emeryville, CA.

About Ligand * Ligand is a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing or acquiring technologies that help pharmaceutical companies discover and develop medicines. Essential Role Responsibilities

  • Assist data driven antibody discovery efforts
  • Assist data standardization and integration
  • Develop algorithms and scripts to process data from various sources
  • Help to develop OmniAb informatics platform
  • Guide therapeutic antibody discovery efforts for partner and/or internal projects
  • Preparation and communication of experimental data reports for partner and internal antibody discovery programs

Non-essential Role Responsibilities Include

  • Other duties as required

Minimum Requirements

  • BS or MS in computational biology/ immunology, bioinformatics or equivalent, with industry experience (1-2 years)
  • Documented coding skills in python and/or R in the context of large-scale biological data (i.e. high throughput assay data such as NGS) is required
  • Experience in algorithm development is preferred
  • Experience in antibody discovery and/or (computational) immunology is considered a strong asset
  • Hands-on experience in molecular biology, cell biology, protein biology is considered a strong asset
  • Hands-on experience in antibody cloning and expression is considered a strong asset
  • Must demonstrate well-developed communication, record keeping, organizational skills, and the ability to work in a team environment
