JOB SUMMARY:   


Sangamo Therapeutics is seeking an experienced material handler III to support the GMP Warehouse organization at the Brisbane clinical manufacturing facility. This position will have accountability for all GMP material handling functions for the GMP warehouse and staging space as well as being responsible for serving as an expert in material management to the team that will ultimately own and operate the systems and space.   The Material Handler III follows current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in daily activities when performing receiving, picking, shipping, equipment monitoring and material control in a regulated warehouse environment.  The position will work closely with the other Brisbane manufacturing user groups and management in support of meeting GMP readiness timelines and goals.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Serve as a SME for all GMP Warehouse material handling related operational needs for the Brisbane as well as potentially future sites.
  • Ensures all daily material handling operations tasks are completed.
  • Ensure import/export compliance and regulations are followed. 
  • Support the GMP Warehouse functional budget to meet company goals and team objectives.
  • Responsible for shipment of hazardous materials, samples and receiving GMP and non-GMP materials by utilizing an ERP system to record all receipts.
  • Responsible for picking, packing, loading and delivering GMP materials to regional clinical and commercial manufacturing facilities.
  • Responsible for pressure monitoring, storage and shipment of tanks and bags containing Bulk Drug Substance (BDS) and Drug Product (DP).
  • Execution of shipping processes; complete bill of lading, arrange special shipments and process international shipments.
  • Responsible for storage and handling of hazardous materials.
  • Responsible for control of quarantined, released materials and cell bank inventories.  Process returns, rejections and destruction of materials.
  • Responsible for monitoring and maintenance of material storage and handling equipment, including temperature monitoring devices and forklifts.  Ensuring all equipment is current on preventative maintenance and calibration.
  • Responsible for handling of gas cylinders.
  • Responsible for warehouse maintenance activities, including routine cleaning.
  • May be responsible for additional warehouse management activities, including fleet maintenance, equipment maintenance and procurement of equipment and materials.  Ensure metrics are tracked/reported as needed.
  • Revise SOP’s and conduct investigations for deviations and offer solutions to improve processes.
  • Maintaining accurate records in both manual and automated systems of all inventory in-stock including received, retained, expired and released items.
  • Conduct/participate in regular cycle counts to ensure accuracy of inventory.
  • Conduct and participate in departmental cross-training programs.
  • May be responsible for training other team members on procedures.
  • May be called upon to lead project/ask teams and to delegate work assignments to other team members.
  • Expected to carry the department cell phone and respond to calls.
  • Ability to be on call and cover other shifts as needed.
  • Agrees to work in Brisbane or Richmond facilities as needed.
  • Work will be performed in an office, warehouse setting and in an environmentally controlled (clean) manufacturing area at the company’s location.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma required, Bachelor’s degree in scientific discipline preferred
  • 4 plus years minimum in a material handling role.  
  • Direct experience with receiving and shipments requiring critical cold chain constraints, materials, inventory control and warehousing & distribution.
  • General understanding of pharmaceutical supply chain including serialization
  • Experience working in GxP pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology regulated environment required.
  • Experience in representing as SME and defending GxP systems in audit settings.
  • Highly functional in a fast-paced dynamic company with ability to prioritize issues under differing pressures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills is a must.
  • Relevant legal standards and compliance systems.
  • Working knowledge of Quality Assurance (QA) and Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) standards.
  • Demonstrated application of quality and efficiency improvement methods such as LEAN, Six Sigma.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in working with electronic systems.   ERP, LIMS, CMMS, WMS.
  • Forklift certified: Gas, LP-Gas, Diesel Trucks, electric sit-down rider, electric stand-up rider, Narrow Aisle Reach Truck, Reach Truck, Narrow Aisle Straddle truck, Sit Down Truck, Order selector truck, motorized hand truck.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems independently.
  • Normal vision and hearing levels; able to lift up to 30 pounds; able to occasionally sit, stand, bend, squat, kneel and reach above shoulders; will be routinely climbing stairs and or ladders.
