Associate Director, Ecosystem Product Marketing

Our goal is to revolutionize genomics, and we can't do it alone! The Director, Ecosystem Product Marketing has responsibility for fostering a healthy ecosystem of 3rd party companies around PacBio's sequencers, from initial strategy and development through to commercialization and life cycle management.

This role reports directly into the VP of Product Marketing, and partners closely with the Alliance Management, Product Development and Business Development, as well as multiple other functions to implement and execute revenue and profit maximizing collaborations. Among other job responsibilities, this position requires in-depth understanding of the global product ecosystem, including sample extraction and library prep through to informatics, interpretation and reporting. The role requires effective communications skills, strong analytical thinking, and an innate drive towards collaboration and seeking win-win solutions for PacBio and our partners.
This person is the ultimate team player who influences across the organization, drives open dialogue, leverages differences, and keeps the teams positive and on task. Details of the role can be broken down into two main areas:

Strategy & Development:
  • Drive strategy to scale, defend, expand ecosystems enabling key market segments and customer use cases
  • Understands PacBio product strategy and translates market gaps / needs identified by internal stakeholders into an actionable strategy with feasible solutions (build / buy / partner)​ in conjunction with Business Development
  • Performs landscape analysis understanding competition and potential partners
  • Works with Commercial Operations and Segment Marketing to build partner-specific forecast estimates and market development plan (1-3 years) that will inform overall company growth opportunity
  • Partnership with BD on Build-Buy-Partner analysis
  • Define, track and optimize KPIs and success metrics ensuring growth among shared end-users via co-development, co-marketing, co-positioning, etc.


Commercialization and life cycle management:
  • Ecosystem orchestration: Work closely with alliance management and internal teams to execute w/ individual partners and ensure both parties meet or exceed established goals;
  • Develop & lead Go-to-market strategy and execution for partnership offerings: Pricing/Discounting, Positioning & messaging, Segmentation, Sales enablement, Customer communications and partner-specific promotion
  • Manages on-market partnering products/component roadmap, forecasting, track & forecast product KPIs
  • Builds product/component user/partner requirements
  • Creates & delivers clear presentations explaining co-positioned solutions' value in webinars, seminars, customer interactions.
  • Leverage early adopters/KOLs to drive peer-to-peer product education and inform partnership strategy/VO
  • Works with Content Strategist to develop overarching messaging strategy for assigned product line; provides expert-level content associated with messaging strategy to Corporate Marketing
  • Continuously assesses trade-offs of using product partners versus build or buy options


Requirements/Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of product management, business development, and/or partnership management experience in life sciences industry required
  • Experience in the genomics informatics ecosystem (secondary analysis, cloud-based platforms, interpretation and reporting platforms) and/or molecular biology/sample prep ecosystem is strongly desired
  • Experience in strategic product marketing, portfolio management or life cycle leadership is required
  • Experience working in a highly matrixed team environment and ability to yield high productivity in multiple teams in parallel is required
  • Strong track record of integrating and implementing critical 3rd parties into company is required
  • Mergers and acquisitions experience, licensing (i/o, OEM, Distribution, Supply, management)

Education/Discipline:
  • Research experience in life science discipline, genomics, bioinformatics or hands on end-user experience highly desirable
  • B.S. or M.S. in life science
  • MBA highly desired
