Position Overview

Cambrian is looking for an Operations Manager who is commercially-oriented, organized, and solutions-driven. The Manager will serve as a project manager for the Operations team to help drive our early-stage scientific programs to success. This person will work with the Venture team and scientific founders to gain an intimate understanding of the assets and their experimental hypotheses and champion their operational aspects as the assets progress in their R&D phases. Key tasks include setting up operational infrastructure (e.g., HR, legal, branding, finance), tracking progress, producing financial and progress report materials, building a centralized repository of resources, and recommending strategic ways to enhance the value of our assets.


Operations at the Asset Level

Operational Set-up & Management of Approved Assets

  • Establish & maintain corporate functions (e.g., Corporate Admin & Governance, Project Management, HR, Finance, Legal, Marketing, IP, IT, file storage, tax filings) that are both central and customized
  • Manage tasks / projects related to asset’s equity & investments (e.g. updating capitalization tables, obtaining 409 valuations, issuing stock certificates, etc)
  • Generate recommendations for process optimization & lead process implementation initiatives

Business / R&D Strategy & Planning

  • Build productive working relationships with venture teams, EVPs & founders to deeply understand investment thesis, hypotheses, milestones
  • Working alongside the scientific founders, ventures teams and other stakeholders, support the ideation & creation of business & R&D strategy and tactical plans (e.g. timelines & budgets)
  • Enhance and support growth, go-to-market, and exit plans for the asset
  • Perform ongoing relevant market & competitive research to inform valuation models, to inform stakeholders on impacts to business strategy / planning, and to monitor the exit landscape (e.g. market research, competitor analysis, IP / regulatory trends)
  • Provide input to valuation models for the asset, initiating revisions and updates as hypotheses progress
  • Generate recommendations for commercialization / IP / regulatory / other related go-to-market strategies to position the asset for best outcome

Project Management

  • Drive the execution of business strategy & plans by organizing / managing workstreams, projects & tasks across functions and across stakeholders and lead key meetings & governance forums (e.g. weekly team meetings, strategy meetings, board of directors meetings, etc)
  • Create tracking and reporting system of asset progress against defined hypotheses & milestones
  • Ensure asset finances & accounting are up-to-date and accurately reflect the assets current finances & budget vs spend
  • Prepare analysis, progress reports & presentations to senior management to aid in business decision-making at strategy meetings, board of director meetings, and other governance forums
  • Pending progress of defined milestones, make recommendations to adjust operational and funding plans accordingly and bring the stakeholders together to decide

Investor Relations

  • Working across stakeholders, lead the creation of investor ready data-room materials such as pitch decks, valuation models, market & competitive landscapes, summary of patent estate, etc. and maintain the data-room
  • Aid in & manage various fundraising / capital development efforts & workstreams (e.g. investor due diligence, investment closings, execution of investment documents & agreements, etc.)
  • Provide information & support the Cambrian investor relations team as needed when investor questions & requests re: the asset arise

Operations & Due Diligence at the Cambrian Level

  • Identify opportunities for process optimization at the Cambrian level and lead central initiatives
  • Continuously identify opportunities to and execute on ways to creatively support all our assets, e.g., additional funding sources such as grants, enhanced vendor relationships, central data analytics, external partnerships, conferences, publications and other new and improved processes
  • Join Deal teams to support due diligence in topics such as valuation, indication selection, IP, financial modeling/budgeting, development & business plans


  • Bachelor's degree in science, business, or finance / accounting required; advanced degree in similar fields a plus
  • 3-5 years experience in biotech / pharma R&D / commercialization / business operations / business development either directly or through consulting preferable
  • Adept at building financial models; able to perform data analysis via Excel to inform business / financial decision making
  • Adept at building communication documents (e.g. pitch decks, progress reports, presentations, etc)
  • Exceptional project manager: understand interdependencies, create short- and long-term plans, monitor budgets, push forward progress and immaculate execution
  • Exceptional team & stakeholder management skills: being able to work with, bring together and foster strong working relationships with many different stakeholder types is a must
  • Entrepreneurial, keen attention to detail, solution-oriented
  • Ability to own and lead a project from start to finish (from ideation through implementation)
  • Ability to identify process / operational gaps & inefficiencies and propose / execute solutions. Please provide examples of process or operations implementation projects you have led
