The Tumor Microenvironment Thematic Research Center (TME TRC) is focused on developing therapeutic targets at the intersection of tumor, stromal and immune biology within the TME with the goal of enhancing responsiveness to checkpoint blockade and targeted therapies. Comprising of scientists across multiple disciplines we are responsible for the biology and translational science necessary to support drug development from target identification through to first in human studies.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Scientist with deep oncology drug discovery and development experience to join the Myeloid Biology team as part of the Immunology and Stromal Biology Discovery group within the TME TRC (Redwood City, CA). The individual will drive early drug discovery programs across both large and small molecules through target identification, validation, lead optimization and toward clinical proof of concept in patients. They will work collaboratively with drug discovery, predictive science, translational and clinical teams to advance molecules and further mechanistic understandings of myeloid biology in the TME. The qualified candidate will bring extensive knowledge in immunology, myeloid biology and drug development to the team.
Biology Program Lead for myeloid discovery portfolio projects across large and small molecule therapeutic modalities
Design and execution of robust preclinical data packages to support drug discovery programs
Contribution to exploratory target identification and validation of novel targets
Participation in review of external/business development opportunities
Biology Discovery support for myeloid facing clinical assets
Mentorship and direct management opportunities of Research Scientists and more junior colleagues
PhD in cancer biology, immuno-oncology, stromal biology or equivalent advanced biology degree
2-4 years of relevant industry experience, with a proven track record in target validation and drug discovery by driving decisional data for programs
Strong background in biologics and/or small molecule drug discovery, including evidence of subject matter expertise through publications in the field
Expertise in multi-parameter flow cytometry analysis of tumor infiltrating immune cells (Cytobank, FlowJo, MACS) and extensive experience with in vitro and ex vivo functional assays
Experience and deep understanding of preclinical animal models of human cancers
Excellent verbal and written communication skills across all levels both within an organization and with external collaborators/companies with the ability to recognize, articulate and accept calculated risks to make informed decisions
Working knowledge of all functional areas of drug development including toxicology, translational biology and early clinical development
Experience in bringing biologic and/or small molecule programs from preclinical research through to IND submission
