Who You Are:

The pre-clinical Scientist will be responsible for technical laboratory activities supporting BridgeBio’s growing gene therapy portfolio. This role is a research, hands-on, and laboratory-based position in our Raleigh, NC laboratory. The incumbent will report to the Head of Virology and Molecular Biology and work closely with other team members to move new therapeutic candidates to clinical evaluation.  In addition, the preclinical Scientist will apply their acquired knowledge, technical competence, and will and skill to learn toward the advancement of BridgeBio’s gene therapy delivery platform.

Responsibilities:
  • Support R&D activities by executing in vitro experiments, including design, data analysis, and interpretation, as well as troubleshooting
  • Support preclinical development by handling and testing animal samples and rAAV materials provided by CROs, collaborators, and vector production facilities
  • Devise novel approaches to advance rAAV as a gene therapy delivery vehicle, including higher productivity and purity, superior potency, enhanced tissue specificity, and reduced cost of goods
  • Explore alternatives to rAAV to deliver therapeutic genes to tissues affected by a genetic defect
  • Interface closely with other team members, including the CMC department, project management, and document control to ensure on-time completion of tasks
  • Assist in the design, development, and qualification of new technical capabilities to assess new and existing lead candidates
  • Assist in the authorship of development reports, SOPs, qualification plans and reports, and archiving data


Education, Experience & Skills Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in molecular virology with a minimum of 5 years of experience
  • MS in molecular virology with a minimum of 8 years of experience
  • Experience in molecular virology, including reverse genetics and virus propagation, is required
  • Proficiency in recombinant Adeno-Associated Virus (AAV) methods
  • Experience with Aseptic tissue culture experience, especially as it pertains to virology
  • A strong background in and an appreciation for nucleic acid techniques, including cloning, purification, quantification (real-time and digital PCR), and sequence determination, is a must-have
  • Experience in Next-Generation Sequencing is highly desirable
  • Coding experience is desirable
  • An understanding of protein expression analytical methods (western blot, ELISA, flow cytometry) is a plus
  • Attention to detail, meticulous interpretation of scientific data, strong problem-solving skills, and a thorough documentation practice is essential
  • Be a team player with strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills displays a healthy level of self-confidence paired with receptiveness to feedback is a good listener with a positive attitude
  • The successful candidate will put patients first, let the science speak, think independently, strive for transparency, and be economical in their time management
