JOB PURPOSE

Sana Biotechnology is looking for a Head of Facilities to join our fast-growing team! In this role, you will be responsible for Sana's capital project master plan, maintenance of facilities, site services and serving as liaison for contracted facility spaces across all Sana's US office locations. This position reports to the Head of Global Laboratory & Facility Operations and has direct leadership responsibilities for all facilities staff, vendors and contractors, in addition to matrix leadership responsibilities for capital projects. In this role, you will fully manage the company's facility portfolio, develop long-range facility and site services strategy, and will own budget accountability for the function. You will work collaboratively and engage directly with business unit leaders, employees, vendors, landlords and local authorities. A must is having project delivery experience, superior skill in cross-functional leadership, excellent prioritization, responsiveness, customer service, and verbal communication skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

Capital Project Leadership: In collaboration with Real Estate, Finance, Laboratory Operations, and other business units, develop the master plan for Sana's lab and office capital projects including new facilities, renovations, and expansions, in all geographies. Directly manage internal facilities leads responsible for design and delivery of capital projects. Contribute to Sana's Real Estate strategy, incorporating company growth projections, strategic milestones, and future facility technical requirements.

Facility Maintenance: Responsible for ensuring that all Sana facility systems are in good working order, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, furnishings, and waste management
  • Directly supervise facility management staff across sites and further develop facility support staffing models, incorporating vendors and consultants where appropriate, to ensure scalable coverage of facility maintenance tasks at each site
  • Develop and implement physical security strategy
  • Continually assess business and operational risk associated with existing facilities and develop mitigation and maintenance strategies to address
  • Develop and implement MEP lifecycle review and maintenance plans for existing and future facilities

Site Services: Provide oversight and strategic guidance to the Site Services team responsible for delivering services and amenities for Sana staff working onsite, including:
  • Reception
  • Badge issuance
  • Food/beverage services
  • Parking/gym access
  • Mother's Rooms

Contract Facility Liaison: Serve as operational liaison for Facility-related workstreams with non-manufacturing external facilities including existing or future contract lab, office, or in vivo facility space.
  • Perform gap analyses between Sana internal and external facility policies; collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to prioritize and remediate gaps which pose operational or business risk to Sana
  • Collaborate with Laboratory Operations and EHS to ensure that staff working in external facilities have the supplies they need and are equipped and trained to adhere to Sana EHS policies

Functional Responsibilities:
  • Establish and manage business processes for Facilities workstreams
  • Provide exceptional people leadership to a diverse and distributed team, providing guidance, development and motivation to help support a positive employee experience
  • Build a team-based environment that aligns with company values, ways of working, and competencies
  • Collaborates with cross-functional partners such as Lab Operations, EHS, Legal, HR, and IT on needs, budget and project decisions

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration or a related field
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in facilities and capital projects management / leadership within R&D laboratory, biotechnology or pharmaceutical environment across multiple locations and time zones
  • 7+ years of proven success leading teams
  • Sophisticated fiscal planning and leadership skills, with a strong understanding of the complexities of a multi-site environment
  • Demonstrated breadth of experience in Operations and Facilities Management. Must understand facility systems and have experience working in laboratory environment
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills to prioritize multiple work streams and deadlines and balance opposing priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, influence, and communications skill with the proven ability to communicate effectively across all departments and levels of the organization
  • Is flexible and adaptable - Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced working environment and work in a diplomatic and tactful manner with others
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment where results are achieved through influence, cooperation, and the incorporation of multiple points of view
