DIRECTOR, PROCUREMENT

Position Summary:

The Global Blood Therapeutics (GBT) Director of Procurement will report to the SVP, Finance and provide organizational, strategic leadership and oversight on all matters related to source/procurement to pay; activities related to ongoing supplier management; be a strong collaborative and effective business partner in a high growth, dynamic organization and will be responsible for ensuring procurement activities, systems, processes and procedures are in accordance with Corporate Internal Controls and are in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX).

The Director of Procurement role plays a leadership role in creating and implementing procurement initiatives company-wide. This position will be a self-motivated individual who can drive decision making and solve problems; have excellent project management and overall management skills and must be proactive and deadline oriented. This individual will not only have to be highly experienced in traditional procurement operations but also can grow and develop with the company culture.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies. Includes management of procurement organization and capabilities
  • Develop and drive the implementation of best practices including the expansion of current systems functionality and future cloud-based applications to a global level
  • Provide leadership, manage and develop procurement employees (full time and contracted employees) as well as outside services as needed
  • Responsible for development and management of supplier relationships
  • Oversee processing of the day to day purchasing for the company, including expediting orders and customer support to the scientific and non-scientific community
  • Lead the purchasing department in negotiating specific agreements for goods and services
  • Further develops and oversees company material handling. Ensures appropriate procedures are in place to comply with company procurement guidelines (i.e. guarantee materials are received from proper vendors, delivered to inventory, packaged according to specification and shipped in a timely manner)
  • Manage, direct and lead with the resolution of procurement related ERP system fixes, upgrades and changes; be a key member in the implementation and integration of enhancements of cloud base applications with other systems, respectively
  • Collaborate and work with Facilities Director to oversee analysis of material usage to develop inventory levels for company stocking programs as well as onsite supply programs for the scientific community
  • Oversees purchasing database and documents and analyzes data to ensure best practices. Monitors the cost, schedule and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality & quantity at best value
  • Manages special projects and product procurement
  • Develops new purchasing policies and procedures to assist in implementing more effective programs
  • Ensure all procurement/purchasing processes, procedures and standards, where applicable meet the requirements under section 404(b), SOX "Effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting"


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science/Arts degree
  • Require a minimum of 10 years of procurement related experience with at least 5 years of management/leadership experience
  • Biotech/Pharmaceutical/Commercial Organization preferred and a definite plus
  • Performs a variety of complicated or multi-layered tasks
  • Outstanding organization and detailed oriented skills
  • Applies strong analytical and business communication skills
  • Net Suite and/or e-procurement system skills, a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
