MEDICAL SCIENCE LIAISON - CENTRAL REGION (IN, OH, PA)

Position Summary:

Global Blood Therapeutics (GBT) is advancing the care of people with sickle cell disease by developing breakthrough therapies, raising awareness and working to increase access to care. The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is the field-based medical partner responsible for providing accurate and fair-balanced clinical and scientific information related to SCD and GBT medicines (approved and pipeline) to Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), Health Care professionals (HCPs), payer and government organizations, and other members of the scientific community in compliance with all relevant company policies. In addition, the MSL is responsible for providing medical support for GBT's clinical research programs, registries and facilitation of investigator sponsored trials. In compliant collaboration with their regional partners, the MSL is accountable for driving the local medical strategy and delivering fair-balanced and accurate information to the customer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate deep clinical and scientific knowledge about GBT medicines (approved and investigational) and the SCD therapeutic landscape to facilitate appropriate scientific exchange and gather relevant insights from HCPs and KOLs, which may shape company research, development, and strategies for investigational and commercialized products
  • Adhere to all regulatory and compliance guidelines and company policies in all aspects of scientific dissemination of information, including responses to unsolicited requests for medical information
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with external stakeholders to expand GBT's research, advisory and education partnership opportunities
  • Identify challenges and educational needs within the medical community in the SCD therapeutic space
  • Participate and lead the development and execution of medical strategies, regionally, to identify key SCD experts, investigators and institutions
  • Collaborate with the GBT clinical study teams to coordinate and optimize educational and research support for sites/investigators participating in GBT's clinical trials
  • Respond to unsolicited requests regarding interest in investigator sponsored studies (ISS), and supporting ISS submissions through appropriate internal review and approval processes
  • Maintain clinical expertise through comprehensive education including attendance at relevant symposium, scientific workshops, and review of key journals; and where applicable participation in required internal training and presentations
  • Synthesize and communicate complex information and insights in a concise and effective way for presentations to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Mentors other MSL team members
  • Assist in the training and development of Medical Affairs colleagues and Commercial field teams


Qualifications:

  • An advanced clinical/science degree in life sciences (MD, PharmD, PhD, or MS-NP with relevant experience) is required and a minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an MSL or in a comparable role is preferred
  • Prior experience in rare disease is preferred
  • Launch experience preferred
  • Has an established and demonstrated track record of effective and influential oral presentations within the healthcare profession
  • Has excellent leadership, organizational, and time-management skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with both external and internal stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Ability to influence and work effectively across functions
  • Ability to travel 60-70%
  • Driving is an essential duty of the job; candidates must have a valid driver's license and be able to demonstrate a safe driving record to be considered. Once hired employees will be subject to an annual Motor Vehicle Report in accordance with GBT's Driver Motor Vehicle Policy
  • Field-based. Must live within geographical territory outlined above
