Just is seeking a highly motivated and creative Automation Engineer or Scientist that desires a significant opportunity to help invent the technologies required to improve worldwide access to biotherapeutics. This position will be part of a cross-disciplinary team developing antibody libraries for discovery, therapeutic optimization, and high throughput characterization. The successful candidate will support the invention, design, and implementation of antibody discovery processes to drive biotherapeutic development. A strong foundation in liquid handling automation and associated instrumentation is required for this position with additional experience in applying high-throughput methods to all aspects of protein therapeutic development strongly desired. This individual must also possess strong communication and collaboration skills, a desire to learn new scientific concepts and domains, and an ability to work directly with scientific staff across multiple disciplines.

Responsibilities:
  • Work independently and in teams to develop, implement, and utilize liquid handling automation and associated instrumentation for antibody discovery
  • Perform script writing on standard liquid handling instrumentation (especially the Hamilton Star, Venus 4.0)
  • Suggest, devise and implement solutions to increasing the efficiency and throughput of lab processes using either off-the-shelf devices or customized designs
  • Act as liaison with vendors to devise and implement the best automation solutions which may involve hardware and software interfaces such as working with APIs
  • Collaborate with the Just software engineering and data science groups for improving data handling and manipulation such as the creation of worklists and seamless tracking of all lab data capture and registration processes
  • Establish yourself as the go-to individual for addressing instrumentation needs leading to the improvement of lab workflows
  • Maintain a detailed and organized record of process development and experiments in an electronic notebook
  • Organize, summarize, and present data and results at department and project team meetings

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • B.S./M.S. degree in life or physical sciences, engineering or other related discipline with 5+ years of experience
  • Thorough understanding of lab automation and related devices
  • Highly collaborative personality
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong focus on quality and attention to detail
  • Possess effective task and time management skills
  • Ability to work in small groups as well as independently

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in life science bench work (molecular biology, protein biochemistry, etc.)
  • Experience in programming languages (Java, Python, etc.)
  • Familiarity with the concepts and execution of chemical, mechanical and electrical engineering
  • Familiarity with the concepts and execution of microfluidic devices
