Position Summary:

This position reports to the Sr. Vice President, Finance of GBT. The corporate controller plays a leadership role in the accounting and financial reporting functions and in enhancing Finance's interaction with operating departments. Is the liaison between the company and external auditors, including tax accounting firms in providing the required information and ensuring that proper information is maintained for historical purposes. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function. This position also involves being the lead role in month end, quarter end, and year-end close policies and processes. In addition, the corporate controller will be responsible for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance as well as researching and providing clear explanations and guidance for complex accounting issues as they arise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage an accounting staff up to 13 (3 direct reports) whose activities including the Monthly close processes and procedures, General accounting, Accounts payable, Payroll, Treasury, and Internal management reporting. Recommend and implement process improvements that will enhance efficiency and controls and develop formal accounting policies and procedures
  • Manage, direct and prepare all SEC filings and annual reports to shareholders in accordance with SEC rules. Coordinate, collect and manage feedback from management, attorneys, external auditors, audit committee and the printer to ensure timely filings
  • Act as the liaison with external auditors and internal finance team in coordinating quarterly reviews and annual/internal control audits
  • Monitor requirements and maintain compliance with SEC, GAAP, and SOX (when applicable)
  • Work with tax accounting firms to ensure tax regulatory requirements are adhere to and be liaison with internal management to ensure proper tax treatment is met
  • Support international operations and entities accounting responsibilities (statutory reporting, tax compliance, processes and controls)
  • Evaluate and test the effectiveness of internal controls under Section 404 (when applicable). Make recommendations to improve system controls and reduce expenses
  • Research accounting standards and technical issues affecting the company and document the accounting and disclosure impact. Assist in implementing new accounting standards
  • Implement, and maintain systems, procedures and policies. Also ensures accurate compilation and reporting of accounting data
  • Manage, direct and lead with the resolution of ERP system fixes, upgrades and changes; Be a key member in the implementation and integration of enhancements to accounting systems and other systems (i.e., SOX, equity and procurement tools), respectively
  • When applicable, be responsible for Commercial accounting activities (i.e., Gross-to-Net Revenue calculations)
  • Ad hoc analysis and financial modeling, as needed


  • BS degree in Finance/Accounting; CPA required (Big 4 preferred) and working knowledge of a major ERP system and adept in developing and implementing system changes (currently use NetSuite)
  • Minimum of 10-15 years overall with at least 5 years of accounting and financial experience in the Biotechnology or high-tech industries, highly desirable
  • Strong leadership and management experience
  • Proficiency in applying GAAP and SEC accounting and disclosure rules
  • Experience with Sarbanes Oxley Internal Control assessment (Section 404)
  • Detail oriented, excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects while keeping to corporate deadlines and budgets
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
