Overview

We are currently searching for a Laboratory Technician to provide support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a full-time position with MSC, and it is on-site in Bethesda MD.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide variety of procedures and techniques which may include, but are not limited to: DNA analysis, DNA isolation, DNA purification, DNA sequencing, RNA isolation, PCR and NGS etc.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of experiments and results.
  • Write reports of findings, stating methods and procedures, including any modifications employed, specimens and materials involved, and results of experiments.
  • Interpret, evaluate, and discuss the results of each experiment with the task leader as part of the planning process for subsequent studies, and present these findings in individual weekly meetings with the task leader as well as lab group meetings.
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment, and in managing biological materials.
  • Responsible for laboratory upkeep and routine maintenance of equipment. Keep up with scientific literature for new methods and procedures that may be considered for application or modification to selected experiments; daily records of experiments and results in pen in bound laboratory notebooks and backed up on OneDrive; make minor modifications or adaptations to established methods, procedures, and/or techniques to solve problems in the work.
  • Write reports of findings, state methods and procedures, including any modifications employed, specimens, and materials involved, and results of experiments.
  • Interpret, evaluate, and discuss the results of each experiment with mentors and laboratory team as part of the planning process for subsequent studies.
  • Participate in scientific discussions.
  • Assist in ordering and basic budgetary management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree Biology or any other science-related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience working in a laboratory environment
  • Must be willing to work in a BSL2+ environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
