Overview

We are currently searching for a Research Associate to provide support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a full-time position with MSC, and it is on-site in Bethesda, MD.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Utilizes standard operating procedures for specimen handling and processing, test set up and execution, test analysis, database management, data analysis, reporting of results, and record-keeping.
  • Perform a wide variety of procedures and techniques which may include, but are not limited to, DNA/RNA purification and quantitation, PCR, Sanger sequencing and primer design, gel electrophoresis.
  • Analyze Sanger sequencing data and discuss interpretation, relatability, validity and significance of the results.
  • Use bioinformatics approaches and computer programs to collect, organize, and analyze data.
  • Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance, takes authorized corrective action, and notifies key personnel.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of experiments and results.
  • Catalog and label laboratory samples
  • Maintain and organize inventory of samples, data, laboratory supplies and reagents.
  • Troubleshoot problems with and develop methods to resolve these challenges.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in molecular genetics, molecular biology, biology, or a related field plus a minimum of one (1) year of laboratory experience. Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience can be considered equivalent.
  • Proficient in principles of molecular genetics and molecular biology
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and deadlines
  • Able to operate effectively in a group or team-oriented environment.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new methods and technologies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
