In this role, which is a 6 month+ year contract assignment with potential to convert to full-time, you will contribute to the commercial strategy, the U.S. launch and ongoing marketing activities of assigned assets in Santen’s product portfolio. This position will also contribute to regional pipeline development projects on an as-needed basis.

PHARMACEUTICAL STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT & COMMERCIAL PLANNING:
  • Provide commercial input to maximize asset value by guiding clinical development plans for assigned assets within R&D portfolio for the US, based on market research and analysis
  • Gain cross-functional, regional and global alignment on all regional product strategies for each early & late-stage product within the R&D portfolio, supported by detailed revenue and incremental Profit and Loss (P&L) forecasts for viable early & late-stage assets in targeted markets
  • Support the development and implementation of detailed launch plans for late-stage pharmaceutical asset in the US
  • Lead U.S. product portfolio management, including business objectives, product positioning, key selling messages and collaborate with Director, US Marketing in developing / maintaining Commercialization Plan.
  • Lead the development and execution of key marketing strategy with accompanying initiatives and tactics.
  • Measure and report performance of marketing campaigns, gain insight and report results against targeted goals
  • Partner with other members of the marketing team, Global Medical Affairs (GMA) and R & D to effectively communicate appropriate product, market, clinical, competitive information to maximize product awareness and, post-launch, sales results
  • Create physician and patient-targeted educational materials, including sales aids, disease education materials, product websites and videos, and train sales organization on use of those materials
  • Test messages and materials with physicians and other key stakeholders, in market research, at advisory boards, and in 1:1 meetings, to ensure that materials are relevant, informative, and communicate key information about the product
  • Partner with Director, US Marketing to develop and deliver content for periodic business review meetings
  • Provide guidance to media planner and buyers to ensure that media plan meets brand objectives; periodically review plan performance and work with the team to adjust plan as needed
  • Own and manage relationships with Communications and Advertising partners to strategically promote portfolio within assigned budget and timelines.
  • Work with sales leadership to optimize asset management in the field post-launch.
  • Represent the voice of the US region and partner with the Global Medical Communications team in the development of collateral
  • Lead evaluation and monitoring of the competitive environment in the U.S. in relevant therapeutic areas to support R&D product profile development and commercial planning activities and recommend adjustments to marketing plans when necessary
  • Collaborate with Finance to track spending and review monthly accruals
  • Drive the contracting process with external vendors to execute projects with third party vendors as needed (e.g. graphic designer) on time and within budget
  • Project manage all required collateral. This includes, but is not limited to, product sell sheets, sales training materials, physician training materials, video production, etc
  • Function as strategic point of contact for trade shows, conferences and/or courses
  • Execute promotional strategy for medical meetings, which will include the development of a new medical booth in collaboration with cross-functional team and agency partners
  • Perform ad hoc analysis as needed to assess the current business environment and make recommendations. Continuously improve product marketing effectiveness
  • Recommend, initiate, and participate in actions to achieve optimal brand competitiveness in packaging labeling, pricing, technical development, clinical research, and production
  • Cultivate relationships with key customers including healthcare providers, patients and Advisory Board(s)

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in life science discipline, engineering, nursing, or related field. PharmD, PhD, or MBA preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of previous relevant industry experience, including experience in a marketing product management role at a biotech or pharma company
  • Candidate must have significant prior experience planning for the launch of multiple pharmaceutical and biotechnology products in the US.
  • Demonstrated success in all aspects of marketing to include but not limited to: positioning, product development & commercialization, pricing
  • Strong analytical skills used to drive decision-making; proven experience building a business case using market and sales data and financial forecast statistics and getting cross-organization buy-in
  • Previous management consulting or market planning experience, including market research planning and execution, and forecast development, is desirable
  • Ophthalmology experience is strongly preferred
  • Biotech or pharma launch experience is strongly preferred, ideally on an NME
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively work with a culturally diverse group of people.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally and ensure that the needs of key stakeholders are satisfied.
  • Proven track record of being able to flex easily between hands on contribution and leadership responsibility.
  • Strong oral, written and presentation skills to effectively communicate with and influence a diverse cross-functional team.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to effectively juggle multiple issues at the same time, combined with effective time management skills to ensure on-time delivery of products.
