Job Details

The Clinical Histology Core is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to aid in the analysis of histopathology data in the fields of immuno-oncology and immunology. This scientist will apply image analysis and data mining techniques on stained tissue samples from clinical studies, to better understand the tumor microenvironment, profile immune cell subsets, and support our clinical programs. This position will have a focus on quantifying molecular and cellular staining patterns to generate novel biological insights from pathologic tissue samples. The samples to be analyzed include single and highly multiplexed in situ protein and RNA assays.

As an Image Analysis Scientist, a typical day may include the following:
• Implement digital pathology strategies for individual biomarker development programs. Common data outputs include image features extracted after pixel & object classification, as well as supervised machine learning and deep learning-based analyses
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (Imaging group, Molecular Profiling group and Precision Medicine) to select, optimize and apply algorithms to advance our digital pathology-based biomarker development activities
• Analyze, interpret and present data to various audiences (from small lab meetings to presentations to senior management) both internal and external
• Participate in teams devoted to the development of predictive and prognostic markers in oncology and immunology
• Support publications in high impact scientific, technical or medical journals

This role may be for you if:
• You have deep knowledge in immunology
• You have proven experience with computational data analysis on large data sets (highlight on the data analysis and visualization)
• You have some experience with digital pathology and with H&E/ IHC image analysis, cell phenotyping using multiplexed imaging
• Possess the desire to contribute to our mission of translating basic science and expertise into long-lasting benefit for patients
• You possess excellent scientific communication skills both verbal and written and enjoy giving presentations at cross-functional teams, internal review committees, and/or external conferences
• Ability to work in a fast-pace team environment and collaborate cross-functionally with bioinformatics, pathology, imaging sciences, and translational scientific colleagues to advocate for, implement, and integrate digital pathology solutions

To be considered for this role, you must hold a PhD + 3 years of experience in the biomedical or engineering field, and / or a MD / DVM or equivalent degrees in pathology. We are looking for a candidate who possess both an understanding of cancer biology and immunology as well as computational imaging methods. Experience working with common digital pathology software such as Visiopharm or HALO is desired. Proven understanding of bioinformatics and data science concepts as they relate to digital pathology infrastructure and workflows. We are seeking an individual with knowledge of immunohistochemistry, including multiplexed immunofluorescence, spatial or single-cell transcriptomics, and advanced microscopy applications is preferred. Quantitative analytical skills to utilize large scale data sets and proven understanding with machine learning and algorithm development with Python and/or MATLAB in the imaging or computer vision field would be valuable.
