GRAIL is seeking a Senior Research Associate in the Assay Process Development team at our headquarters in Menlo Park to support assay & process development, system integration, sustaining Operations, and continuous process improvement of GRAIL's groundbreaking cancer screening products. You will contribute to wet-lab R&D studies in support of IVD product development goals, including the planning and execution of experiments and data analysis under the guidance of senior scientists. Responsibilities also include contributing to the process development of materials flows through a high throughput platform, troubleshooting complex problems, and supporting end-to-end testing, verification & process validation. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, positive teammate with experience in automated NGS assay development, problem-solving, and process development.

You Will:

• Plan, execute, and perform analysis of R&D experiments in collaboration with senior scientists
• Execute integration and development studies to generate high-quality data by following best practices of assay and instrument operations
• Support process development of materials flows by participating in requirements gathering, process mapping, and risk assessment to determine reagent formats and sample intermediates through a high throughput automated platform
• Support troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and investigation activities for Quality events such as deviation, incident report, and CAPA
• Support continuous process improvement activities through change control for implementation in Operations.
• Document experimental details in electronic form and support writing of protocols and reports
• Perform preliminary data analysis and support presentation and documentation of experimental results
• Ensure technical activities are in line with regulatory requirements (CAP/CLIA/FDA)

Your Background Will Include:

• B.S. or M.S. degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or relevant fields with a minimum of 4 years of work experience in an industry setting
• Experience with Illumina NGS workflow including DNA extraction, library preparation, target enrichment, and sequencing
• Experience with automated laboratory instrumentation such as liquid handlers and multi-functional workcells a plus
• Experienced with standard nucleic acid analytical techniques (e.g, qPCR, Nanodrop, Fragment Analyzer, ddPCR)
• Experience with statistical programming or software (e.g, R, JMP) a plus
• Experience with the development, optimization, and troubleshooting of NGS assay protocols a plus, in particular on automated systems
• Experience with the development and implementation of clinical laboratory tests under CAP/CLIA or FDA/regulated environments
• Experience with design control and change control
• Attention to detail, safety, good laboratory practice, and good documentation practice
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and willingness to collaborate cross-functionally in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
