We are looking for a Director - RGC Sequencing, Lab Operations and Laboratory Information Systems, who will be responsible for the sample tracking and data management systems at the Regeneron Genetic Center's ultra-high-throughput next-generation DNA sequencing lab. You will offer creative solutions for present and future business needs as they arise and strongly adhere to developing/re-developing workflows following the FAIR data principles. You will also supervise and mentor a team of developers and analysts responsible for maintaining day-to-day laboratory IT operations; there is potential for building out a larger team to accommodate the growing needs of the facility. Our team has a high degree of cross-functionality in the organization, working closely with the Genome Informatics and Data Engineering team.

In this role, a typical day might include performing the following:
  • Collaborate within the group and with other teams at the RGC to develop new functionality and expand existing aspects of the lab's information technology; lead the long-term vision of improving operational procedures, increasing efficiency, and making data more accessible and interpretable by humans and machines.
  • Expand existing data integration with automated laboratory equipment, and accommodate future expansion; this may grow to include responsibilities for clinical sample management.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures, code repositories, user guides, data dictionaries, and other relevant documentation for the lab's information technologies.
  • Manage an existing team of direct reports including, but not limited to, LIMS analysts and developers; responsible for planning yearly employee goals and contributing to employee career development.
  • Oversee high-fidelity tracking of all samples and data created in all sample processing workflows; improve user interaction with the data and develop greater interoperability with existing RGC data systems.
  • Develop well-organized tools and novel analytics for monitoring day-to-day sample tracking and laboratory performance; will be encouraged to create innovative solutions for sample and data management to detect workflow inefficiencies before they lead to failures and impact processing output.
  • Supervise and assist when needed with LIMS troubleshooting and support.
This job might be for you if:
  • You enjoy working productively in a fast-paced collaborative environment.
  • You have an eye for detail and pride yourself on the quality of your work.
  • With your sleeves rolled up, you work on current problems while thinking of future solutions.
  • You have strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate at all levels with clarity and precision.

To be considered for the role, you must have at least 8 years' experience leading the Information Technology/DevOps/LIMS function for a laboratory in a high-throughput sample processing environment. Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field. At least 8 years' experience managing a mid-sized team of analysts and developers. Proven track record of mentorship and successful career development of direct reports. Experience with clinical samples is desired, but not required. Tangible experience driving operational excellence and streamlining data workflows. Demonstrated expertise with enterprise and cloud native database technologies (e.g. Redshift, Oracle, Sapio, Amazon Relational Database Services). Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment workflows and management of code repositories. Familiarity with next-generation DNA sequencing technology and analytics. Expertise with various cloud computing platforms.
