BioSpace has an exciting opportunity for a Managing Editor to join our team and help us evolve our content strategy, manage our network of writers, and uncover major industry stories & topics in the biotech world. We are looking for a strategic, business-focused, creative, and proactive leader that thrives in a fast-paced environment.

In this position you will:

  • Manage content organization
  • Assign, edit and publish stories that meet BioSpace editorial standards
  • Identify stories ideas/topics and manager writer assignments
  • Develop & manage a robust editorial calendar
  • Recruit and manage a network of freelance contributors
  • Communicate clear expectations for quality content
  • Provide gripping headlines for articles and newsletters
  • Plan, prepare and edit exclusive features and special reports
  • Develop planning & process for new content formats, including evergreen content
  • Creatively and efficiently resolve issues and investigate complaints, escalating as necessary
  • Monitor website and newsletter analytics as they relate to editorial content and provide monthly reports on editorial performance
  • Help organize and approve newsletter content for daily, weekly, and monthly email newsletters
  • Hold staff accountable for content that is balanced, fair, accurate and complete
  • Proactively identify & recommend new content initiatives to management
  • Develop and maintain relationships with PR media agencies, investment analysts and other key industry sources
  • Collaborate with marketing department on content promotion strategies

Position requirements:

  • 5-10 years of applicable professional experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required (journalism, communications or related field preferred)
  • Experience in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical sector preferred, but not required
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint)
  • Superb written and oral communication skills (excellent grammar and spelling is a must)
  • Knowledge on AP style and copyediting, with a firm understanding of grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • Proven ability to develop and cultivate relationships with industry executives, PR agencies, investment analysts, and other key industry sources
  • Proactive approach to identifying content opportunities
  • Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced, online publishing environment
  • Working knowledge of SEO fundamentals
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate freely with team members
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop is a plus
  • Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment
