Job Summary
Working under the broad guidance of the Senior Director GPM&L the successful candidate will be accountable for leading the GPM&L Project Management Office and will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of strategies for project and portfolio management including decision analysis, project planning, scheduling, resource planning and cost management within Daiichi Sankyo Pharma Development (DSPD). This role will also include staff management responsibilities.

Responsibilities
Project Planning and Portfolio Management: Proactively identify improvements to project and portfolio management systems and reporting mechanisms. Ensure Project Managers are trained on Project Management systems. Collaborate with Sr Management and line functions to develop and implement strategies for project prioritization and portfolio modeling, project trade-off analyses and resource and capacity planning.

Portfolio Management: Implement best practices including development and use of qualitative and quantitative methods for portfolio prioritization, decision tree analysis, and assigning probability of success to support decision making. Working in collaboration with the Global Project Teams, related Functions and Finance develop and implement strategies for decision and resource analysis (e.g., Target Product Profile, Go/No Go decisions, valuation, etc.).

Project Planning, Scheduling & Cost Management: As a member of the GPM&L leadership team evaluate PM best practices and lead implementation for planning, scheduling, cost management and project reporting. Responsible for maintaining the project REDMAP and Project Portal (DSeCO). Represent Daiichi Sankyo at pharma benchmarking forums CMR and KMR. Lead and/or co-lead the development of Annual Project and Divisional Goals.

GPM&L Leader and staff manager: Provide leadership to the GPM&L org as a member of the Leadership team through effective budget and resource management, setting annual goals and strategic direction. Develop GPM&L talent through assignments, performance management and establishing clear expectations. May also manage a drug development program.

Governance Support: Support executive decision making by providing relevant portfolio reports and actively participating in governance meetings. Develop agendas and minutes and provide advice to teams on presentation preparation.

GDP: Collaborate with the Japan GPM&L team to ensure that Daiichi Sankyo's Global Development Process (GDP) is well understood and implemented by members of GPTs and relevant functions through training and awareness initiatives. Recommend and implement continual improvements to the GDP.

Strategic Planning: Lead and/or direct projects related to R&D strategy.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred (i.e., MS, MBA or PhD) in a scientific discipline with additional relevant experience.

Experience

Minimum of 10 years experience; 15+ years preferred in a Project Management or related role in a biotech or pharmaceutical company.
Demonstrated success as a project manager/leader in planning and executing strategies for drug development, commercialization and life cycle management. An understanding of portfolio management, decision science and drug development with a minimum of 3 years in a dedicated portfolio planning and management role. Proven track record as a leader/influencer. Proven track record in supporting governance and decision making bodies.

Competencies

Demonstrated experience leading, influencing and supporting global project teams or line functions to develop and implement strategies associated with project prioritization, portfolio management, and resource management.
Excellent communicator (written and oral) and ability to interface with all levels of management and departments within the company.
Strong interpersonal skills and able to build relationships across organizational boundaries and cultures.

Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification and/or training in project management strongly preferred.

Ensure Project Managers are trained on Project Management systems.
Collaborate with the Japan GPM&L team to ensure that Daiichi Sankyo's Global Development Process (GDP) is well understood and implemented by members of GPTs and relevant functions through training and awareness initiatives. Recommend and implement continual improvements to the GDP.

Advanced knowledge of MS Project, Planisware, and/or other project and portfolio planning and tracking software programs or relational database management required.
