Job Details

JOB PURPOSE

Sana Biotechnology is looking to expand our team with hard-working individuals who believe in the potential of cells as engineered medicines, have an innovative vision, and have the determination to execute that vision. This position in preclinical science focuses on large and small animal studies of heart regeneration. Areas of investigation range from fundamental mechanistic and discovery science to IND-enabling studies under Good Laboratory Practice. The chosen candidate will exercise judgement within broadly defined practices to select methods, techniques and evaluation criteria while working on projects of diverse scope. Successful candidates are expected to have demonstrated success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration, and independent thought.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design and execute preclinical studies to support program objectives
  • Understand and apply relevant scientific literature to the design of experimental protocols
  • Supervise a team supporting small animal experiments and program histology needs
  • Liaise with collaborators to support large animal studies
  • Act as an expert consultant and scientific resource for others in the department
  • Prepare and compile research findings to support regulatory filings
  • Serve on a cross-functional team to ensure that research is adapted to meet changes in corporate scientific priorities

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications
  • PhD or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline with 5+ years of postdoctoral research experience in industry or academic setting
  • 2+ years of experience supervising scientific personnel
  • Demonstrated experience with animal models of heart disease
  • Experience with human pluripotent stem cells, qPCR, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and microscopy
  • Strong organizational, record keeping, and data documentation skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with cardiomyocytes derived from human pluripotent stem cells
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot technical and scientific issues, both individually and part of a team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to detail and data quality, and experience working on diverse collaborative teams
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability adapt communication style to interact effectively with a range of collaborators including research associates, technical experts, computational biologists, cell biologists, and therapeutic teams

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Evening and weekend work required on an as-needed basis

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Carrying, handling and reaching for objects up to 25 lbs
  • Prolonged standing and/or sitting
  • Exposure to hazardous/toxic/dangerous chemicals
  • Manual dexterity required to operate office and lab equipment
