The Position

Cygnal Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated scientist to lead our Biologics Drug Development team to invent, identify and develop large biologic molecules for therapeutic intervention. The successful candidate will report to the Senior Vice President of Drug Development to be part of a cross-functional team that collaboratively develops therapeutic monoclonal antibodies and recombinant proteins. The candidate will work closely with our Biology, Lead Identification and In Vivo Pharmacology teams, as well as external CROs, in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment. The successful candidate should be a self-motivated individual with demonstrated experience in the development of therapeutic Biologics molecules.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide scientific leadership on the identification and development of monoclonal antibodies for the treatment of disease in the areas of oncology, immune-oncology and gastro-intestinal diseases
  • Lead and mentor a team of direct reports and work closely and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team of biologists, bioinformaticians and pharmacologists
  • Provide Biologics support and scientific expertise in support of target validation efforts in the areas of oncology, immune-oncology and gastro-intestinal diseases
  • Oversee the development of in vitro assays required for the validation of novel therapeutic targets with monoclonal antibodies or recombinant proteins
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure timely execution and communication of research results with high quality standards
  • Interface with pharma partners, clinical and academic collaborators, and CROs

Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in biological engineering, biochemistry, molecular biology, or relevant biological science
  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience in large pharma and/or biotech, developing therapeutic Biologics
  • Thorough understanding of the large molecule drug discovery process
  • Knowledge of and experience with all aspects of monoclonal antibody development
  • Experience with outsourcing of research activities to contract research organizations (CROs)
  • Be a self-motivated, well-organized individual, capable of working independently as well as in a collaborative/ group environment
  • Proven ability to manage timelines and resources to drive projects toward key decision point
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate scientific viewpoints to diverse audiences

Preferred Qualifications
  • Drug discovery experience in the field of oncology, immune-oncology or gastro-intestinal diseases
  • Demonstrated contributions to therapeutic monoclonal antibody development, both in terms of data generation, as well as document preparation
  • Demonstrated team leadership in a biotech or pharmaceutical company environment
  • Excellent scientific track record of high impact, peer-reviewed publications and patents
