Job Summary:

This individual will play an important role in the development of preclinical scientific research. Contributes to the discovery and early in vitro characterization of new chemical entities in glycobiology that support lead identification and pre-clinical applications. Works under general supervision.

Job Duties:
  • Plans and carries out a variety of moderately complex experiments and laboratory procedures
  • Performs multiple and advanced techniques, including: cell based activity assays, ELISAs, and ligand binding assays
  • Prepares reagents: buffers, assay solutions, compounds for testing
  • Analyzes data, summarizes and generates technical reports and presentations in an appropriate format. Troubleshoots and interprets experimental data
  • Contributes to team projects by participating in operational planning and collaborating with colleagues to implement the plans
  • Uses scientific literature to keep aware of current technologies and applies new information
  • Maintains an accurate and comprehensive lab notebook
  • Attends and presents results at department/team meetings; uses graphs, photographs, etc.
  • Orders lab supplies, keeps inventory and provides maintenance on lab equipment; may order and distribute critical reagents and perform periodic instrument maintenance
  • May participate in the planning and design of experiments

Job Requirements:
  • BS in Biological Sciences or related area and at least 5-8 years of laboratory experience with a focus on assay development in the life sciences industry; or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience in flow cytometry, protein methods, and biochemical assays (ELISAs, etc.)
  • Knowledge and practice of tissue culture techniques
  • Solid multi-tasking, time management, and organizational skills. Must be detail oriented and able to capture data accurately
  • Biacore experience is desired
  • Works well independently and works cooperatively with team
  • Must be proficient working with MS Office, statistical software, and graphing software
  • Demonstrated communication skills; including interpersonal, verbal and writing skills - able to convey information in a clear and concise manner; able to write clear and concise technical reports
  • Ability to learn new techniques as needed
