Job Details

JOB PURPOSE

Sana Biotechnology is seeking a creative and highly motivated individual to join the T-cell therapeutics team who will help bring gene and cell therapies to patients. This individual will be responsible for the execution of research-stage molecular and cellular techniques to advance T-cell based therapies. The ideal candidate will have experience with mammalian cell culture and methods to engineer, sort, and clone cell populations. Supplemental to mammalian cell culture, this individual will perform molecular biology techniques such as nucleic acid extraction/preparation, PCR/ddPCR, and cloning to provide genetic tools able to further our gene and cell therapy platforms. Success in this position will require a collaborative spirit with other scientists and research associates, strong problem-solving skills, and a penchant for documentation in a fast-paced work environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Molecular biology
    • DNA purification, restriction digestions, ligations, cloning, and sequencing
    • Knowledge of DNA analysis software and related computer techniques
  • Cell Culture
    • Maintain and engineer immortalized and primary cell lines via transfection, lentiviral transduction, electroporation, or CRISPR KO
    • Clonal selection of engineered immortalized and primary cell lines
    • Purification of engineered cell products via cell sorting (flow) or magnetic beads
  • Immunoassays
    • Perform multiparameter flow analysis of engineered and primary cell lines
    • Working knowledge of immune cell types and functional assays
  • Data documentation, processing, and analysis
    • Review and present data at department meetings and larger forums
    • Comply with standard laboratory practices and company policies, including notebook documentation and biosafety policies
    • Function as an independent individual contributor while working closely with other members of the T-cell therapeutics group

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications
  • Educational/Experience Requirements
    • Bachelor's plus 4yrs or MS with 1-2yrs or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Job Complexity
    • Work on assignments that are moderately difficult in nature, but with proven ability to work independently. Requires judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations
    • A strong self-starter, independent thinker, with a strong attention to detail
  • Typical Responsibilities
    • Performs research in collaboration with others on projects.
    • Makes detailed observations, analyzes data, and interprets results.
    • Investigates, creates, and develops new methods and technologies for project advancement.
    • Maintains high level of professional expertise through familiarity with scientific literature.
    • Troubleshoot and execute on his/her own, as well as mentor junior scientists in lab
  • Specialized knowledge/skills
    • Familiarity with CAR-T based therapeutic development and evaluation
    • Familiarity and experience in cell line and primary T cell manipulation and characterization
    • Experience with primer design, PCR protocol design
    • Familiarity and experience with molecular cloning techniques
    • Experience with the characterization and assay of immune cell populations (e.g. flow cytometry)
