ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Director of Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) leads the development, implementation, and communication of successful global Health Economic and Outcomes Research strategies from feasibility to post-launch of all ophthalmology devices and pharmaceuticals. This role will develop innovative HEOR tools and communication strategies that enable Santen to maintain a competitive advantage in the marketplace while retaining a high level of scientific integrity.

The Director, HEOR operates under a complex regulatory/legal environment with interdepartmental/cross-country/external interfaces, requiring specialized training and pharmaceutical experience in health economics and outcomes research with a strategic focus while flawlessly executing on the strategy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND KEY DELIVERABLES:
  • Identify HEOR evidence requirements and gaps, develop and communicate HEOR strategies that demonstrate the value proposition of Santen products globally.
  • Provide strategic and analytical thought leadership to ensure the development and implementation of strong value propositions for all therapeutic areas.
  • Coordinate the collection of inputs from Regions/ local country market access teams on evidence needs and ensure that those input are appropriately incorporated to support global market access needs.
  • Drive innovative economic modelling activities that maximize the economic value of brands for payers, purchasers, surgeons and/or patients.
  • Develop innovative evidence generation projects to support products from HEOR perspective and demonstrate value proposition to external stakeholders, including RWE, prospective and retrospective, disease/ treatment burden and cost effectiveness studies.
  • Develop and validate new Patient-Reported Outcomes measures for inclusion in clinical trials, registries and prospective real-world studies.
  • Provide strategic input into clinical development programs and commercial plans throughout the product’s lifecycle to optimize market access and product value proposition.
  • Ensure timely availability of HEOR key deliverables to support market access, R&D, commercial and scientific strategies.
  • Drive publications that optimally support access in key markets and provide scientific backbone to commercial and payer messages.
  • Develop value demonstration and communication tools that demonstrate the value of products beyond publications.
  • Understand and translate local needs into HEOR deliverables and supports local teams in local adaptations.
  • Drive KOL and HCP interactions to collect insights, ensure timely strategic input, understand evidence needs and drive scientific communication of value messages.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to drive evidence generation needs, develop innovative analysis plans, and manage data-driven initiatives.
  • Contributes to local and regional strategy development and execution.
  • Develops field-based operational plans to align with local, regional, departmental and business objectives.
  • Identify and maintain successful research relationships with HEOR thought leaders and a voice on shaping HEOR methodology and policies.
  • Develop potential research partnerships with key decision makers in health care systems and patient care/support organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Core competencies, education, and experience.
  • Minimum of five to seven years in the pharma industry, with work experience related to the function.
  • PhD, MS/MPH, MD, or PharmD required. An equivalent combination of education and applicable experience in a relevant discipline related to health services research, epidemiology, biostatistics or public health may be considered.
  • Experience in Ophthalmology is a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of biostatistical methods and statistical programing.
  • Thorough understanding of modeling, observational research and the HTA process.
  • Experience with launch of new product(s) or indication(s).
  • Demonstrated experience conducting research directly with managed care organizations, physician groups, and/or employers, leveraging claims databases, syndicated reports and other sources of RWD.
  • Demonstrated research accomplishments as evidenced by a history of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Excellent knowledge of managed care, managed care decision making and the healthcare environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong computer skills.
  • Ability to work well in a matrix team and cross-functional environment, as well as work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to travel.
