SENIOR DIRECTOR, MARKETING

Position Summary:

Global Blood Therapeutics (GBT) is seeking an experienced commercial leader for the role of Senior Director, Marketing reporting directly to the Vice President, Marketing & Patient Support. The Senior Director will be responsible for developing and executing the U.S. Oxbryta® brand strategies/plans to drive the continued success of this innovative Sickle Cell Disease prescription product. The Senior Director will provide the leadership, strategic vision, and functional expertise to support/manage the HCP, Patient, and OLP teams. To succeed in this role, the candidate must have strong marketing, communication, influencing, analytical and partnership skills with the ability to guide and develop a marketing team of six individuals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and executing the U.S. Oxbryta® marketing plan to achieve product and corporate objectives. This will include the following:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the annual brand plan, including strategic vision, communication platform, and tactical executions and ensure consistent messaging to external customers via the sales team and alignment within the broader organization
  • Effectively analyze data, KPIs, market trends, and the competitive landscape to inform the Oxbryta® strategic plan; addressing key challenges and capitalizing on prioritized opportunities that impact the management and direction of the business
  • Ensure marketing programs/initiatives are executed effectively and efficiently ensuring proper resource utilization, ROI, and alignment with approved expense budgets
  • Develop strong working relationship with sales leadership to drive success in pull-through of HCP strategy/messaging and sales execution
  • Form strong and collaborative partnerships with Analytics, Market Research, Sales Training to effectively prioritize key projects that will support optimal insight generation and sales force effectiveness
  • Develop relationships with key opinion leaders and physician advisory board members
  • Support Patient Marketing lead in gaining alignment across patient-facing internal teams to drive synergy in external initiatives
  • Support OLP lead in interfacing with Medical Affairs to ensure seamless thought leader utilization and planning
  • Represent U.S. Marketing team on global Commercial Planning initiatives such as development of GBT framework for Global Brand Planning to ensure integration of regional/local market considerations
  • Work closely with direct reports and key cross-functional partners to continuously improve operational excellence in PRC, Convention Management, Speaker Program Management
  • Support direct reports in management of relationships with agency partners and other key vendors and ensure expected deliverables are met and GBT SOPs/policies are adhered to
  • Manage and inspire the marketing team to achieve superior performance; set annual goals & objectives based on business priorities and create opportunities for personal development and professional growth
  • Participate on multi-disciplinary teams as needed to provide perspective on cross functional issues, ensure organization alignment and success in brand strategy/messaging (i.e. Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, and Manufacturing)
  • Champion innovation and continuous improvement in marketing excellence by seeking learnings from industry trends and communicating relevant insights for consideration
  • Establish credibility throughout the organization and position self as an effective problem solver and driver of business growth and an exceptional people leader
  • Ensure compliance with all GBT policies and requirements
  • Prepare presentations for senior leadership discussions; support VP in special projects


Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess 12 or more years of experience in the pharmaceutical/ biopharmaceutical industry. This individual will have played an integral role in the commercialization of innovative pharmaceutical products with recent successful launch experience with a specialty/orphan drug. This person will have effectively led and motivated a U.S. based marketing team.

Specific qualifications will include:

  • Bachelors' degree, MBA preferred, and a minimum of 12 years of progressive Marketing leadership experience in Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology industry
  • Demonstrated strategic acumen in developing innovative marketing strategies that achieve business objectives
  • Strong leadership experience and traits, including prior experience managing teams and direct reports to achieve exceptional results
  • Knowledge of SOPs/guidelines, FDA and OPDP requirements for pharmaceutical products
  • Highly motivated, results driven individual with strong decision-making capabilities and demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Proven project management abilities to ensure timelines are met when integrating input from cross functional groups as well as the ability to prioritize and multitask in fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment and to value the importance of teamwork
  • Ability to identify priorities, align strategic and tactical plans and motivate a team of both direct reports and cross-functional partners
  • Strong scientific/medical aptitude, ability to communicate complex scientific/medical concepts in a simple and understandable manner
