The Tumor Microenvironment Thematic Research Center (TME TRC) is focused on developing therapeutic targets at the intersection of tumor, stromal and immune biology within the TME with the goal of enhancing responsiveness to checkpoint blockade and targeted therapies. Comprising of scientists across multiple disciplines we are responsible for the biology and translational science necessary to support drug development from target identification through to first in human studies.

Position Summary:

The Associate Scientist / Senior Associate Scientist will join the Translational Research & Development team within the Tumor Microenvironment Thematic Research Center (TME TRC) at Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) in Redwood City, CA.

This position will support the identification of potential biomarkers and patient populations, target engagement, and pharmacodynamic assays for oncology targets. Additionally, the position will support mechanism of action studies using primary human tumors and mouse models and platform development and validation studies for TME biology.

The qualified candidate is a highly motivated, collaborative, and creative individual that possesses the ability to work across a highly matrixed environment to develop and implement advanced tumor models supporting the discovery and translational development of novel therapeutics in oncology. The candidate will be expected to be a self-starter and a team player effectively collaborating with colleagues in the oncology, immunology, immuno-oncology, protein engineering/antibody development, chemistry, biomarker and clinical groups. The successful candidate will have proven records of relevant scientific backgrounds and strong technical skills including experience with mammalian cell culture, and demonstrate clear and professional verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting scientific results to multidisciplinary teams and key stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • B.S. with a minimum of 2-5+ years of relevant research experience, or an M.S. with a minimum of 1-5 years of relevant experience with strong scientific knowledge and research experience in cancer biology or cellular and molecular biology is required.

  • Hands on experience with various in-vitro cellular and biochemical assays, including cell culture, HE/IHC, Nanostring/RNAseq, western blotting, immunoprecipitation, ELISAs (MSD) is required.

  • Proficiency in mammalian cell culture is a must.

  • Demonstrated independence in experimental design, execution, data analysis and troubleshooting is required.

  • Proficiency in utilizing software such as Graph Pad, electronic notebook, Microsoft office etc. for data analysis and figure generation is required.

  • Attention to detail with excellent organizational and record keeping skills is required.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with people, internally and externally is required.

  • Expertise in 3D in vitro / ex vivo models like spheroids, explant, organoid in tumor, myeloid and stromal biology, is highly desirable.

  • Flow Cytometry and NGS experience is highly desirable (Aria, Fortessa, Sc/bulk RNAseq etc.).

  • Knowledge of preclinical drugdevelopment and industrial and/or translational drug discovery experience including knowledge of assay design and validation is a plus.

  • Experience in bioinformatics approaches both technically and theoretically is desirable.

  • Ability to mentor more junior scientists and colleagues on best practices in the laboratory would be highly valued.

  • This position is located in Redwood City, CA. There will be less than 10% travel.
