Position Summary:

Under the direction of informatics leadership, develop software applications to facilitate research activities and data management. Work with end users to understand their daily routines and needs, design and develop software tools, collaborate with Data Analyst to design intuitive user interfaces, integrate custom and commercial systems, test and debug software applications. Lead and mentor software contractors and junior software engineers. We are looking for people who are passionate about software coding to help facilitate the discovery of next generation medicines for patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead projects to design and develop web applications to facilitate research activities, data capture, data analysis and visualization
  • Work closely with research scientists to understand research processes, workflows, data management and bottlenecks
  • Manage software engineer contractors and/or junior software engineers
  • Collaborate with Data Analyst to optimize UX design and system workflows
  • Understand current informatics systems and tools, search and identify new technology solutions
  • Interact with end users and collaborate with Data Analysts to gather requirements
  • Track user requests and plan implementation based on complexity and priority
  • Document user requirements, change requests, software design and source code
  • Document testing and user feedback
  • Review software source code with Informatics leadership and maintain in a versioning system
  • Participate with Research leadership in Informatics annual goal setting


  • 8 years full stack software development experience
  • Deep experience with Software/System, Development Life Cycle (SDLC) Management
  • Extensive experience developing web applications using Java/Python/JavaScript/JQuery, AJAX, JSON, HTML/DHTML/CSS
  • Experience working with SQL and relational database, such as Oracle and MySQL
  • Expertise in web technologies, popular frameworks and architecture i.e. Nodejs, Django, Tomcat
  • Experience utilizing AWS software development platform/infrastructure
  • Familiarity with Visual Basic, .Net framework, and MS Office tools
  • Knowledge and experience using open source tools and frameworks
  • Experience in full life cycle of software development
  • Excellent communication, personal and organization skills
  • In-depth knowledge of biopharmaceutical research processes
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry or related disciplines (MS is preferred)
