DIRECTOR, PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT TEAM LEADER

Emergent BioSolutions is currently seeking a Director, Product Development. The successful candidate will have a PhD in Microbiology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or in another related Life Sciences field with 10+ years of related therapeutics development experience, including and 5-7 years of therapeutics product development experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Must have strong interpersonal, oral and communication skills including a track-record of scientific expertise demonstrated through peer-reviewed publication, abstracts and presentations. THE OPPORTUNITY

The Director of Product Development will lead cross-functional product development teams within the Therapeutics Business unit, reporting to the VP R&D, Therapeutics. The role is accountable for multiple development programs in Public Health Threat diseases from preclinical research through product licensing submissions and approval. In addition, the role will provide leadership to product development teams by interacting with cross-functional partners across the organization. The role will also develop strategies that provide alignment and set direction for development programs across R&D.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Consolidates and communicates the strategic and technical direction for products/project teams, linking together objectives and development goals from each area within R&D (Pipeline Research, Preclinical Research, Bio/Analytical Development and Process Development).
• Acts as a technical expert and interfaces with key internal stakeholders that contribute to product development (New Product Planning, Product Management, Project Management, Clinical, Medical Affairs and Regulatory etc.
• Responsible for developing and delivering on, an integrated product development plan.
• Leadership role responsible for providing clear direction on product development project requirements and deliverables and communicates expectations to internal and external stakeholders.
• Partners with Project Management to develop key milestones, project budgets and timelines.
• Anticipates potential development opportunities, hurdles or issues and proactively manages to maximize opportunity and/or minimize risk.
• Sources, interprets and summarizes key scientific data to assess for significance and potential program impact (opportunity/risk) and recommends changes as required.
• Drives alignment across R&D teams with a strong level of partnership, empowerment and collaboration.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

• PhD in Microbiology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or related Life Sciences field with 10+ years of related therapeutics development experience, including and 5-7 years of therapeutics product development experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
• Experience in emerging infectious disease, acute care markets and working under government contracts is highly desirable.
• Experience managing drug development projects from early development through BLA or NDA preparation and approval is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, oral and communication skills including track-record of scientific expertise demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications, abstracts and presentations.
• Demonstrated experience in problem solving, decision making, building effective cross-functional teams, mentorship and scientific leadership.
