JOB SUMMARY and KEY OBJECTIVES 

This position will develop and maintain a Food Safety system specifically for FDA-FSMA 21CFR part 507 for Animal Drug, Feed and Supplements.  As Food Safety Coordinator, the position will ensure compliance with all applicable food safety standards, develop and implement related procedures, maintain and review records, train staff on food safety issues, and find ways to improve plant programs.

The Food Safety coordinator ensures that the product produced by the organization is safe for animal consumption.   The Food Safety coordinator will comply with food safety rules and regulations at the local, state and federal levels. 


Specific duties performed by Food Safety coordinator may include training employees in food safety procedures, reviewing any safety issues and recommending needed changes, developing new food safety procedures and implementing these procedures (reviewing their effectiveness periodically). 

Food Safety coordinator must pay close attention to detail to be able to conduct appropriate, accurate inspections of their facility's operations. 

Must stay up to date with all feed/food safety standards and be able to articulate those standards to a wide variety of individuals within the organization. 

Main point of contact for cGMP activities and compliance the manufacturing site.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Conduct and / or assist with Corrective and Preventive Control and Hazard Analysis Plans
  • Record Keeping for Food Safety Program and other cGMP requirements
  • Training for Food Safety and all pre-requisite programs including cGMP
  • Verification and Validation of Food Safety plans
  • Develop and implement safety procedures and protocols.
  • Review and verify paperwork for regulatory and internal compliance.
  • Train and certify employees in procedures, protocols and quality steps.
  • Resolve safety issues and identify root causes and recommend changes.
  • Assist Quality Assurance and Quality Control with internal ISO 17025 audits and quality management system.  
  • Technical transfer reports and test method transfer documentation and training.

  

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES and TASKS

  • Must have flexibility to work some off-shift and weekend hours.
  • Other duties as required.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS and EDUCATION

  • Knowledge of 21 CFR part 507 food/feed standards and preventative controls
  • Experience in Safe Food / Safe Feed certifications such as GSFI, BRC Global Standards, ISO 22000 etc.  
  • Experience in animal feed/food safety required. FAMI-QS 
  • Preventative Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) training required
  • Food/Feed safety Internal auditor credentials required. 
  • Knowledge of ISO 17025 standard and laboratory testing
  • BA in Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, Virology, Chemistry, Nutrition or closely related field desired.   Equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel and other spreadsheet/database software.
  • Good inter-departmental communication (written / verbal) required.
  • Ability to write, comprehend, and understand written scientific procedures.
