Adverum is looking for a Research Associate to join our team in our Redwood City office. This position reports to a Sr. Scientist in Assay Development.  This role will participate in developing, qualifying, transferring, documenting, and troubleshooting cell-based and molecular biology assays.  The successful candidate should be enthusiastic about contributing to the dynamic programs at Adverum Biotechnologies Inc. and willing to assist other cross-functional teams when needed.
What you'll do:
  • Maintain a detailed awareness of industry regulatory guidance and standards for assay validation and performance.
  • Maintain excellent laboratory notebook documentation.
  • Work with Scientist/Associate Scientist in development, qualification, and transfer of assays to support release and characterization of in-process and final products.
  • Execute experiment designs for qPCR, ddPCR, ELISA, and cell-based assay, work with mammalian samples and cell cultures.
  • Present results, conclusions, and implications to analytical development team members.
  • Author standard test methods and best-practices documents for the Assay Development group.
  • Maintain critical reagent inventory and instrument calibration records.
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

About you:
  • Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology or related life science field with 2+ years of experience in a biotech company or fast-paced academic research lab.
  • Broad knowledge base in cell, molecular biology, and microbiology techniques.
  • Experience with a variety of analytical techniques including, but not limited to, quantitative qPCR, ELISA, and cell-based assay.
  • Experienced/knowledgeable in sterile tissue culture techniques including transfection, viral transduction and cell line maintenance.
  • Experienced in generating high quality and reproducible data employing accurate documentation is a must.
  • Must be proactive, co-operative, flexible, and willing to work independently or in a small team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Background and understanding of AAV biology would be a plus.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with data analysis software such as GraphPad Prism and/or JMP, data collection software such as SoftMax Pro and or ddPCR, is a plus.
