2021 Experiential Internship - Software Developer, In vivo Pharmacology

Functional Description:

Oncology is a key therapeutic area for AbbVie, with a portfolio consisting of three marketed products - Imbruvica, Venclexta, and Empliciti - and a pipeline containing multiple promising new molecules that are being studied in nearly 200 clinical trials in 19 different types of cancer.

AbbVie is expanding its oncology hub on the West Coast, with three sites in the San Francisco Bay Area (Redwood City, South San Francisco, and Sunnyvale) that will be merging into one state-of-the-art facility located in South San Francisco, CA in 2021. The new facility will be home to more than 1,000 AbbVie scientists, statisticians, clinicians, and product developers with strong entrepreneurial roots work on the discovery and development of novel oncology therapies. They combine their expertise in immuno-oncology, stem cells, and cell-signaling with their knowledge of bispecific antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and covalent-inhibitor technologies to discover and develop novel cancer treatments.

Job Description:

We are looking for a BS/MS student studying Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field to participate in the 2021 Summer Experiential Intern Program. The project is focused on enhancing the use of an existing internally developed software for recording in vivo experiment data and enabling operational changes as the in vivo pharmacology team moves to the new SSF facility. The candidate will work collaboratively with data scientists, software developers, and in vivo pharmacologists to assist with various project roles from documenting the software operations to improving the framework to adapt to evolving in vivo experimental and operational needs. The amount of independence and assignment scope will be determined by the candidate's experience and project timelines. All work will be conducted virtually, with team collaborations and interactions to be held via video conference meetings.

Key Deliverables:
  • Documenting software connectivity, operations/functions, and instructional guides for users.
  • Maintain existing and create new database architecture per the project needs.
  • Create solutions for and develop new or enhanced software interfaces for in vivo experiment data recording.
  • Testing of newly developed software interface solutions prior to production release

  • Experience in database architecture and/or MySQL databases is a plus.
  • Ideal candidate will have a passion for programming and problem solving.
  • Must be a collaborative team-player, detail-oriented, organized, and accountable.
