Pacific Biosciences is seeking an experienced and highly motivated analytical chemist to support the analysis of nucleotide derivatives and maintain the instrumentation in the organic chemistry lab. The ideal candidate for this role will have experience analyzing and purifying various fluorescently labeled compounds and a passion for instrument maintenance that includes analytical HPLC & UPLC (Waters), LCMS (Thermo), NMR (Varian), fluorometer, and preparative HPLC (GE). Additional skills in method development, report customization, instrument repairs, and data management are also valuable. The successful candidate will enjoy working closely with synthetic organic chemists, provide analytical support for specific efforts both internally and also to other groups, maintain the existing instrumentation, and help with the acquisition of new instruments. This position primarily involves independent hands-on laboratory work.

Requirements:
  • 3 or more years of relevant industrial experience, preferably in the life sciences area
  • Strong background in analytical chemistry & instrument maintenance
  • Understanding of organic chemistry
  • Working knowledge of analytical techniques such as LCMS, NMR, absorption, and emission spectroscopy
  • Sharp problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team of scientists
  • Attention to detail, careful record-keeping, a high level of organization, and good verbal and written communication skills
