Internship Description:

The goal of the intern project is to develop a Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) model by coupling solid and fluid dynamics to simulate the filling and pumping of drug product through a drug device container and associated tubing. During the filling process, the initially evacuated bag deforms as it is filled with the drug product. The deformation stresses the bag and tube materials, and it is crucial to ensure that these stresses are maintained within the critical thresholds for the corresponding materials during the filling and pumping process to avoid damage to the device. Moreover, the bag could contain dead zones from where the drug product is not pumped out which would result in a lower dose of drug being delivered to the patient. The non-Newtonian behavior of the high viscosity gel-like drug product adds to the complexity of the filling and pumping mechanisms. The model will explore the impact of material/geometry/process parameter variations on the device performance.
