Title: Data Sciences Intern


AbbVie Data Science is the best-in-class team within its cross-industry peer group and is responsible for bringing people, process, and technology together to generate business value from clinical trials data. Our operational model is exemplified through execution and innovation. This role is key to ensuring successful delivery against the program- and study-level accountabilities assigned to Data and Statistical Sciences.

  • Develops a deep understanding of clinical trial concepts and the ability to effectively interpret cross-functional protocol requirements
  • Engages with members of the DSS and cross-functional study teams to effectively execute assigned activities
  • Establishes proficiency with and effectively utilizes available technology to execute assigned activities Establishes proficiency with standards to be used in the design and development of key system interfaces Under direct supervision, supports the execution of all processes in support of study startup, conduct and close-out
  • Under direct supervision, performs data analyses in support of operational decision support
  • Under direct supervision, supports development of clinical trial application design specifications
  • May complete rotation through multiple DS roles to establish a base proficiency and to develop a holistic understanding of Data and Statistical Sciences and of clinical development stakeholders
  • Ensures adherence to federal regulations and applicable local regulations, Good Clinical Practices (GCPs), ICH Guidelines, AbbVie Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and to functional quality standards. Stays abreast of new and/or evolving local regulations, guidelines and policies related to clinical development


Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program with a major in Biochemistry, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Analytics or other related field
  • Desired Skills: Good communicator, exhibits strong critical thinking skills, independently motivated
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship
  • Must be returning to university for at least one semester and graduating within one year post internship

Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hour day)
