The DevOps Applications Architect in the Marketing Technology (MarTech) Services COE is responsible for leading all the technical application architecture and hosting activities of AbbVie's US Commercial non-AEM Web hosting environment. S/he will support AbbVie's digital marketing programs, specifically the setup or migration of websites and the associated technical capabilities developed on the AWS platform. The individual will work closely with business and technology leads including managers, analysts, architects, project managers, as well as external agencies and partners. The individual will operate as an AWS subject matter expert and will be the point person for all technical and functional capabilities of the AWS platform. S/he will report directly to the Platform Manager Marketing Technology Services COE.

Qualified candidates must have proven experience with the Amazon Web Services capabilities and offerings as it relates to DevOps and Web hosting.

Primary Responsibilities/Duties
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on AWS Web hosting capabilities.
  • Translate business requirements into well-architected solutions that best leverage the AWS platform.
  • Lead technical design sessions to architect and document technical solutions that are aligned with business objectives.
  • Design, implement and maintain all AWS infrastructure and services within a managed service environment
  • Develop automated solutions when necessary leveraging the AWS platform capabilities including CI/CD, Code Deploy and Code Pipeline.
  • Lead the deployment of automation infrastructure by utilizing the AWS Cloud Formation technique
  • Establish standards and guidelines for effective use of the AWS infrastructure and integration with other core AbbVie systems.
  • Design, both technically compliant and secure architecture in alignment with AbbVie Policies and procedures.
  • Work with minimal oversight; deliverables and relationships are monitored through periodic reviews.


  • Bachelor's Degree with 7 years experience, Master's Degree with 6 years experience, or PhD with 2 years experience of solid, diverse work experience in IT, application program development. Bachelor's degree, Master's Degree, or PhD in Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • Must have hands on Amazon Web Services experience in a Digital marketing or Information technology organization.
  • 7 or more years of technology experience in a digital marketing organization with hands-on experience leading, developing and architecting digital websites and capabilities.

Skills/Experience Requirements
  • Strong experience in leading, developing and architecting applications including websites leveraging Amazon Web Services applications such as Code Deploy, Code Pipeline and Cloud Formation. Familiarity with other cloud technologies and services such as Azure, Azure DevOps will be a plus
  • Strong knowledge of AWS Lambda, Amazon Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS), Amazon Simple Email Service (Amazon SES), and Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS)
  • Strong knowledge with Web Services, Containers, API Gateways and application integration development and design.
  • Deep expertise in the AWS components & APIs
    • Expert working knowledge of Operating Systems (Windows and Linux).
    • Advanced knowledge of databases (SQL Server and MySQL)
    • Advanced knowledge of relevant web services, mail, backup, and application monitoring
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to building trust, listen, and ask effective questions with the goal to create a scalable and reusable Web hosting service.
  • Innovative thinking and the ability to leverage past technology experience to be successful in an entrepreneurial fast paced environment.
  • Strong IT analysis and analytical skills.
  • Ability to self-manage time and priorities.
