Amgen is seeking an Information and Technology executive to advance Operations Information Systems (OIS) Digital capabilities in support of our Global Operations. This position is located at our corporate headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA and will report to the Head of OIS.

Key Responsibilities
  • Refine, own and execute the digital capabilities strategy and roadmap for Amgen Operations in alignment with the key Operations drivers of reliability, efficiency, agility and differentiation - define the path forward needed to support the company's ongoing operations and growth plans and leverage technology and data to differentiate Amgen Operations from its competitors
  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing technology talent. Assess the organization structure and develop a team capable of executing the technology strategy and delivering value to the company. Build a slate of successors within the IT organization to prepare for the next decade
  • Build relationships with senior business leaders to clearly define program requirements and outcomes, set project budgets and investment prioritization, and collaboratively align the Operations digital vision and strategy with Operations strategic intent drivers (reliability, efficiency, agility and differentiation)
  • Monitor external digital changes and be a source of continuous innovation, facilitating speed to and in market and competitive advantage. Leverage digital to drive innovation in the business
  • Define and execute forward-looking plans to develop and deploy relevant new digital solutions; and work to ensure smooth adoption of those solutions and deliver of efficiencies
  • Pick the winners. Communicate the company's digital capability strategy to the executive team, top management and staff
  • Provide stewardship and effective management of digital resources and investments, including oversight of resource requirements, departmental budgets and staffing plans, and management of vendors and service providers
  • Vet and select best practice vendors while negotiating cost effective contracts for software, services and projects
  • Manage digital capabilities continuity and connectivity, overseeing maintenance, compliance and security of existing systems and development of new solutions as the company expands virtually, internationally, and to new locations
  • Establish and maintain effective governance for digital capabilities controls
  • Leadership of culturally and technically diverse teams / disciplines in EMEA, North America, Asia Pacific
  • Attract & build great talent and influence organizational change to continuously re-tool the skills within the organization to meet technology and business environment changes
  • Develop & execute a Vision & Strategy - measurable through tangible KPI's, goals & Metrics

We are seeking an IT leader with a dynamic and collaborative style who leads by example and possesses a focus on partnering with other executives within the organization. We are looking for a digital thought leader who can build immediate credibility with the senior leadership team and the organization. To support these objectives, the position requires someone who facilitates discussions and promotes collaboration across multiple parties; identifies and meets with key players and stakeholders to help them shape a consensus collectively and engages in dialogue to reach a conclusion together, compromising as necessary for results; develops explicit understanding of which relationships are most important to the organization and its stakeholders and builds a network to prioritize these relationships.

As the Head of OIS Digital capabilities, you will be responsible for the strategic direction and end to end delivery of digital solutions enabled through connected information and technology across the Operations functions of Amgen, which consists of Process & Product Development, Manufacturing (including contract manufacturing), Supply Chain, Suppliers, Quality and Engineering / Facilities & Construction.

This is a leadership position that forms a key part of the OIS Leadership team and requires a mature, technology and business leader who can devise, own and implement interconnected digital, information and technology roadmap, yet contribute on topics relevant to all aspects of the Operations strategy. The position requires the ownership and management of large and complex programs of work that are highly visible and business critical. The position has global accountability for all Operations' digital technology (e.g. connected data capabilities, data/analytics platforms, automation, digital infrastructure) in support of the Global Operations function and interfacing with key IT shared services for information security, infrastructure and data, analytics and SW engineering.

The Head, OIS digital capabilities will be a seasoned, mature technology leader with experience operating at the senior most levels of a life sciences organization. They will be a highly collaborative business partner focused on building relationships across the company, and will leverage these capabilities by fostering a positive, constructive culture within the technology team. This executive will be a focused, results-oriented thought leader capable of delivering significant technology change initiatives across Amgen Operations.

Basic Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree & 6 years of technology experience OR
  • Master's degree & 10 years of technology experience OR
  • Bachelor's degree & 12 years of technology experience AND
  • 6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS degree in Engineering or Computer Science, MS degree desired
  • Twelve or more years of technology leadership experience as corporate divisional level (divisional CIO or equivalent), or the number two technology leader supporting Global Operations
  • Experience leading teams in excess of 200 employees and 100 full-time, contract, and vendor resources in the areas of application development & maintenance, security and IT operations data management and analytics
  • Change management skills with the ability to inspire, develop, retain and attract top quality IT people
  • Pharmaceutical and medical devices technology is also desirable
  • Life sciences industry experience operating across R&D, manufacturing, quality and commercial functions
  • Functional skill set and experience, with the capability to lead teams of technology experts. Broad technical depth across IT and OT
  • External network and the ability to influence external suppliers and consultants, both on-shore and off-shore
  • Understands current best practices and emerging technologies in software applications (mobile, SaaS) security, validated/ cGMP compliant systems, infrastructure, cloud, data, advanced analytics, simulation & modeling, machine learning and artificial intelligence
  • Adept at leveraging a variable workforce model for both applications run management and development
