The Translational Immunology Department at our AbbVie Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA is committed to elucidating the mechanisms of our therapeutics as they transition into human clinical studies and equipping them with biomarkers to aid in their progression through the pipeline. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our group to help develop biomarker assays for use in clinical studies. Methods for biomarker analysis primarily include isolation of extracellular vesicles (EVs), interrogate their RNA and protein content, and to aid in biomarker discovery for autoimmune disorders. We also hope to continue validating previously identified biomarkers in both healthy and diseased settings.

The successful candidate will work both within the Translational Immunology Department and as a member of cross-departmental interdisciplinary teams. They will be expected to perform and analyze assays independently with attention to detail to generate high quality and reproducible data.

Core job responsibilities include:
  • Nucleic acid quality control, cDNA synthesis and qRT-PCR.
  • High throughput RNA and DNA extraction from clinical/human samples
  • Extracellular vesicle isolation and in vitro/ex vivo assays.
  • Library preparation for RNA Sequencing
  • Maintenance of lab reagents.
  • Effective communication of results in a timely manner in written and oral form.


Required qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree with typically 0-3+ (BS) years of experience, or 0+ (MS) years of experience
  • Experience with cell free RNA/DNA isolation, RNA Sequencing data analysis, and experience working in a BSL-2 environment.
  • The candidate should possess excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Generate, analyze, and effectively communicate and present data both one-on-one and to a larger audience.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience working with extracellular vesicles/exosomes.
  • Knowledge of immunology / biomarker discovery is a plus.
  • Prior experience working in a research lab in an industrial setting.
