Sr Manager IS - End User Device Engineering

The Customer Care & Experience team at Amgen focused on advancing capabilities which improve the experience of internal Amgen customer (workforce). Within Customer Care & Experience, the Digital Workplace Experience team focuses on driving adoption and maximizing business value of deployed End User Technologies. These include synchronous and asynchronous collaboration solutions such as WebEx, Microsoft Teams, and Miro, and devices such as PCs, mobile phones and tablets, and printers. The team consists of cross-disciplinary IS professionals who understand how to deliver services that span operations, engineering, governance, and enablement.

In this vital role you will be responsible for the design, architecture and management of the end user computing platform, designing and maintaining technology standards based on industry best practices, managing a technology roadmap, and proposing and developing new solutions based on business strategy. The Senior Manager will work with the broader IS and business organization to deliver solutions, serve as a domain specialist in end user computing technology, manage governance and compliance to the standards, and drive focus on delivering an excellent customer experience. As a people manager, the organizational duties will include handling resource demand and capacity, staff performance management and talent development. The IS Senior Manager End User Device Engineering, reports to the Director, IS End User Device Services within Digital Workplace Experience organization.

Key Responsibilities include:

 

  • Driving a seamless, secure, and outstanding experience for users.
  • Figuring out how to improve business value from Amgen's device technology.
  • Leading technical team to define, architect, operate, and maintain the end user computing environment (PCs, mobile phones, tablets, and printers)
  • Communicating the benefits of the devices to colleagues and helping the governance and enablement teams figure out the most relevant and impactful changes for partners.
  • Establishing and maintaining the systems, tools, policies, and processes required to deploy and support application and workforce services to end user devices across the enterprise.
  • Advocating secure computing practices and procedures and communicating best practices throughout the company
  • Defining standards, deployment methods, supported configurations for Amgen IS provisioned desktop/laptop systems using Windows, Mac and iOS Operating systems as well as end user devices following Amgen IS device lifecycle policies and procedures.
  • Identify, monitor, publish, and manage critical metrics to show improvements in stability, usage, and efficiency.
  • Leading the testing and qualifying of all desktop/laptop software and updates in accordance with all compliancy and audit requirements.
  • Defining and creating the next generation desktop platform (Modern Device Management)
  • Defining, establishing, and maintaining Short-term and Long-term Strategy and roadmaps for all device modalities including laptops, desktops, manufacturing desktops, virtual desktops (AWS VDI) and all iOS devices (iPhones, and iPads)
  • Providing technical oversight of device vendors and monitoring their roadmaps
  • Escalation of open tickets and requests with vendors
  • Actively participate in high priority outages, troubleshooting efforts, and capacity/availability planning sessions
  • Define architectural solutions by conducting business reviews, current scenarios and implementing industry leading standards into the environment and in collaboration with operations, enablement, and enterprise architecture.
  • Lead strategic IS projects and initiatives.
  • Lead and develop a team of engineers, identifying plans for talent development and conducting performance evaluations.

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Information Systems experience
Or

Master's degree and 6 years of Information Systems experience
Or

Bachelor's degree and 8 years of Information Systems experience
Or

Associate's degree and 10 years of Information Systems experience
Or

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Information Systems experience
And

2 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:

 

 

 

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or Life Sciences
  • Experience in crafting conceptual models and solution designs for Digital Workspace technologies including but not limited to mobility, virtualization, iOT, tablets, laptops, desktops and end user IT peripherals.
  • Experience in strategic execution plan identifying gaps between company's current and future targets
  • Expertise in using existing enterprise architecture frameworks to make key decisions, increasing reliability through multi-functional technology decision making.
  • Proficiency in using and managing iOS, iPadOS, macOS, Windows 10, Application and desktop Virtualization technologies.
  • Working knowledge and understanding for Cisco Voice, and conference room equipment
  • Experience collaborating with DevOps or Agile teams.
  • In-depth knowledge in system orchestration and integration
  • Demonstrated UEM experience (VMWare WorkspaceOne, Microsoft Endpoint Manager, and Jamf) including device provisioning, application deployment, reporting, architecture, patching, OS updates, configuration, security, and policy management.
  • Experience developing automation solutions using scripting techniques (PowerShell, Bash)
  • Experience developing packages for wide scale distribution for Windows and Mac.
  • Excellent history of building solutions that meet business needs, accelerate digital transformation, while considering multi-functional activities
