What you will do

In this vital role you will be a key team member in the Government Programs (GP) organization within the US Value and Access organization and is responsible for the commercial and government pricing and contracting activities. As a member of the GP Leadership Team, the Contracts and Pricing Senior Manager holds a pivotal management role in ensuring Amgen's success in the Government Healthcare Markets, including Medicaid and Medicare, which covers a substantial portion of Amgen patients.

The Contracts & Pricing Senior Manager has the responsibility for management of Government Program pricing calculations that includes establishing appropriate pricing related policies and procedures, delivering key data analysis, strategic insights, and ensuring strong internal and financial controls over price reporting for Federal and State Government Programs. As part of the GP Leadership Team, the Contracts & Pricing Senior Manager is responsible for fostering an agile, proactive and continuous improvement culture while supporting key initiatives within the organization. The Contracts and Pricing Senior Manager requires strong collaboration cross-functionally with team members in Contract Operations, Trade & Distribution, Provider Contracting, Payer Contracting, Compliance, Corporate and External Audit, Finance and Accounting, Law, and Information Systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leads Government Program price calculations; including key application of government policies and regulations, methodologies, calculation formulas, and submissions to the Government
  • Interacts regularly with senior leadership and other high-level cross-functional teams as well as collaborates with upstream functional teams that support the execution of Government Price Reporting
  • Leads GP Manager(s) responsible for completing Government Pricing calculations, analysis, and submission of Medicaid/Medicare/VA pricing to government in compliance with government regulations and Amgen policy
  • Champions and influences organizational change through daily behavior
  • Analyzes Amgen's commercial contracting strategies and translates those strategies into the resulting impact on Government Programs pricing calculations
  • Monitor government pricing calculation requirements and policy changes and implement as necessary
  • Develop substantive pricing analytics that accurately address portfolio trends, reporting variances, and financial impacts of Government Program calculations and communicate key variance drivers and/or insights effectively
  • Use of strong and persuasive verbal communication skills to execute and communicate effectively in a highly fluid, interactive, matrixed environment
  • Identify and document key internal and external risks that may impact Amgen's ability to maintain compliance with its Government Program policies, methodologies, and procedures
  • Engage with corporate and external auditors on SOX, financial and other audit related activities to fulfill Government Programs' audit responsibilities

Doctorate degree and 2 years of experience in either government pricing, commercial contracting and/or pricing, finance, accounting, auditing, compliance, analytics, and/or sales operations
Or

Master's degree and 4 years of experience in either government pricing, commercial contracting and/or pricing, finance, accounting, auditing, compliance, analytics, and/or sales operations
Or

Bachelor's degree and 6 years of experience in either government pricing, commercial contracting and/or pricing, finance, accounting, auditing, compliance, analytics, and/or sales operations
Or

Associate's degree and 10 years of experience in either government pricing, commercial contracting and/or pricing, finance, accounting, auditing, compliance, analytics, and/or sales operations
Or

High School Diploma / GED and 12 years of experience in either government pricing, commercial contracting and/or pricing, finance, accounting, auditing, compliance, analytics, and/or sales operations
Preferred Qualifications

2 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

  • Solid experience solving complex business problems and managing analytics projects. Experience in pharmaceutical/biotech environment. Demonstrated track record of increasing responsibility and leadership experience
  • Proven ability to execute and communicate effectively in a highly fluid, interactive, matrixed environment; demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple simultaneous, complex projects to completion
  • Demonstrated experience working as an agent of change within a dynamic organization including specific experiences in project management and lean process improvement
  • Excellent analytical capabilities. Excellent conceptual problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to bring structure to vaguely defined problems, pragmatically scope problem-solving approach, and manage execution
  • Authoritative command of complexity and ambiguity; ability to see the big picture; ability to collect, digest and assemble information to enable relevant business analyses and controls
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as project management skills and capacity to manage/lead multiple projects
  • Exceptional experience with Excel modeling; Tableau experience highly preferred.
  • Deep interest and/or experience navigating the evolving U.S. healthcare system with specific interest on the interactions between Government and Healthcare.
