What you will do

In this vital role you will a part of the Discovery Attribute Sciences within Amgen Research providing scientific and technical expertise to support early discovery research through to later stage molecule optimization and late-stage selection of Amgen's pipeline of drug candidates. This position is an exciting opportunity to unlock the potential of biology for patients suffering from serious illnesses by discovering, developing, manufacturing and delivering innovative human therapeutics.
- Identifying and assessing a variety of manufacturability and quality attributes of therapeutic protein candidates utilizing multiple analytical techniques.
- Develop and apply novel sample preparation and analytical methods for the analysis of therapeutic proteins to assess biophysical properties such viscosity, aggregation and charge heterogeneity with emphasis on techniques such as size exclusion chromatography, hydrophobic interaction, ion exchange chromatography, formulation screening, calorimetry and multiple protein viscosity measurements and mass spectrometry analytical techniques.
- Investigation, development and the application of miniaturized, predictive and high throughput protein stability and manufacturability methods is expected.
- The expectation for this role is to be predominantly laboratory based, providing support for multiple projects and their advancement and also be able to perform innovative manufacturability and attribute technology application method development.
- Excellent demonstration of communication (verbal and in written) of scientific concepts and results.
- Work collaboratively and lead other scientists on multidisciplinary teams.
- Work independently and in teams in advancing projects and studies within required deadlines.
- Actively create or contribute to patents and publications. Demonstrate external scientific eminence in the form of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
- Keep current with field of expertise, participate and advance drug development, technologies and information services programs within Amgen.
- Follow protocols and procedures, maintain accurate records in an electronic lab notebook, and generate quality data for use in drug development

Basic Qualification
A Doctorate degree with 5+ years in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or equivalent with emphasis in mass spectrometry and other analytical characterization techniques, such as reversed-phase, size exclusion chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, rheology and calorimetry.
Relevant experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team in a biopharmaceutical setting would also be an advantage.
Preferred Qualifications
- Documented theoretical knowledge and hand-on experience in assessing molecule stability and manufacturability using both traditional analytical techniques and high throughput predictive methods would be preferred.
- Training and experience of operating Agilent and Waters HPLCs and UPLCs and formulation screening measurements would be advantageous.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Knowledge of statistical processing of data, including related software like Excel, Spotfire, JMP or ArrayStudio and chromatographic software control and data processing packages is required.
