Background:

The Data Solutions Department within the Information Research (IR) Division works with internal clients to provide data management and decision support tools to optimize the efficiency and efficacy of research and development at AbbVie.

Description:

The Technology Engineer I position is a critical role for AbbVie within the Data Solutions department. This individual will implement technology solutions to provide agile and impactful solutions for the business. Key responsibilities include developing new capabilities for scientific data integration, visualization, and custom analytics using modern technologies in the areas of APIs, JavaScript, and ETL/database design. This role will work together with a team of data scientists as a full-stack developer, with a heavy emphasis on understanding the data.

Responsibilities:
  • Evolve - maintain, and develop JavaScript web applications connecting data platforms and technologies
  • Consult - provide insight and assistance with ETL processes and data pipelining
  • Learn - understand, and master new methods and technologies particularly in UI development and using APIs for data integration, and act as a resource or mentor for others
  • Implement custom technology solutions/processes that connect data and systems and foster the growing AbbVie data integration environment
  • Communicate and collaboration with data scientists and pharmaceutical scientists to facilitate the development of the best solution
  • Move fluidly between different project responsibilities

Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in bioinformatics, cheminformatics, or related life sciences is required
  • Computer science or equivalent development experience is desired
  • 2-3 years biopharma industry experience preferred
  • Mastery of data flow, ETL, database structures
  • Proficiency in languages such as JavaScript and Python
  • Intermediate SQL skills (basic queries, table creation, views, and reporting)
  • Previous experience with pipeline software preferred (RapidMiner, Knime, Pipeline Pilot)
  • Experience with analytics tools such as Spotfire, Tableau or Power BI
  • Knowledge of API integration
  • Knowledge of React or Vue, or understanding of JS frameworks
  • Knowledge of statistical and data mining techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate analytical and technical concepts in layman's terms
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and quantitative skills
  • Demonstrated history of successful execution in a fast-paced environment and in managing multiple priorities effectively
