The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)—one of the largest Institutes of the National Institutes of Health (NIH)—is seeking exceptional applicants with experience in clinical research and project management for a health specialist position in the Office of Clinical Research Resources (OCRR), Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (DMID). DMID supports extramural research to control and prevent diseases caused by virtually all human infectious agents (except HIV). DMID provides funding opportunities and a comprehensive set of resources for researchers that support basic research, preclinical development, and clinical evaluation.

As a health specialist, you will plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate programs and initiatives in the area of infectious diseases clinical studies. In addition, the health specialist duties will include:

  • Assisting and working collaboratively with the project scientist/project officer to support the management of research resources, technical administration, and programmatic evaluation of funded grants/cooperative agreement awards and other activities
  • Working in partnership with multidisciplinary research team, including clinical investigators, in the review, management, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of multi-center or other clinical trials
  • Collaborating in the development and oversight of appropriate operating procedures for the review, implementation, and dissemination of clinical protocols supported by the Division
  • Performing fiscal oversight of large-scale clinical research programs
  • Planning and executing analytic research projects
  • Planning and carrying out quality control program and select statistical methods for use in quality control analysis
  • Preparing the more complex aspects of studies that require more sophisticated methodology

Qualifications

Required

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Successful completion a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position

  • Knowledge of clinical trial regulations and best practices to support the oversight of clinical and operational activities that are part of a national and international program of clinical trials
  • Experience in clinical research
  • Experience reviewing and analyzing multi-project budgets
