As a Senior Database Engineer at GRAIL, you'll enjoy working on a broad array of software systems and projects. We pride ourselves on building effective, efficient, easy to use and scalable software systems.

Responsibilities Include:

• Monitor AWS Aurora MySQL databases for high availability and high performance.
• Manage and support production and development databases.
• Troubleshoot database performance issues.
• Contribute to the architecture, design, and modeling to improve database integrity.
• Adhere to best practices regarding access to and management of databases.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot live issues.
• Understanding the data flows across systems in order to identify potential cross-system impacts.
• Driving policies for data backup, recovery, security, and integrity across systems and implementing them.

Your Background Should Include:

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or similar technical field.
• 5+ years of industry work experience designing, developing, and maintaining databases.
• Experience with MySQL and no-sql databases.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership and self-direction.
• Demonstrated willingness to teach others and learn new techniques.

Bonus Points:

• Experience with AWS data management solutions. AWS certifications, especially AWS Database Specialty Certification.
• Experience with database migration, performance tuning, and optimization.
• Experience with next-generation sequencing data analysis (DNA, RNA, or epigenetic analysis.)
• Excellent knowledge of general-purpose programming languages including C++, Java, Javascript, Python, Go.
