Duties & Responsibilities

MSC is currently searching for a Database Administrator with expertise in cloud migrations to support enterprise IT systems at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Contingent on Award.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operational responsibility for software system databases in Azure cloud and on premises.
  • Support cloud migration and adoption of managed database cloud services
  • Install, configure, administer and patch MS SQL and PostgreSQL database servers
  • Implement and refine physical database schemas in both PostgreSQL and MS SQL Server
  • Implement database migrations
  • Deploy physical database solutions in Azure using Azure managed services for PostgreSQL and MS SQL Server
  • Implement database backup and recovery strategies
  • Comply with Azure hosted and onsite database security standards
  • Document database admin and management related processes
  • Provide support to the developers including, but not limited to, data refresh, performance tuning, and best practices recommendations
  • Troubleshoot issues and problems regarding the databases, apps, and dev tools.
  • Automate database admin and maintenance tasks


Position Qualifications
  • PostgreSQL
  • MS SQL Server
  • Cloud experience
  • Expert in query and database tuning
  • Expertise with scripting
  • Windows and Linux experience
  • Ability to work and collaborate with cross-functional teams to address database application issues
  • Experience working within an Agile environment

Additional Desired Skills
  • Experienced in securely hosting databases within Azure environment
  • NIH experience preferred
